On desktop, I tried to log into 'Threads' with my instagram, it says I must download the app

Isn't this weird for something that is also available as a www?

All I can think of is that they want to harvest data from me by having their app on my phone.

You'd think that they'd allow someone to use their twitter clone as a desktop experience without the app.
