What did you watch this week pumpkin? (10/08-10/14) đ
Yo, drop whatever youâre doing, we got more important matter at hand!
My week:
The land before time: The secret of Saurus Rock (1998 DVD): The 6th entry in this super mega franchise is not amongst the most memorable and outstanding but itâs fun, cute and thrilling enough. My rating: 7.5/10
De l'autre cĂ´tĂŠ du pĂŠriph (On the Other Side of the Tracks 2012 TV): almost halfway in I realised my wife and I had seen the sequel to this last year (The Takedown) and we hadnât liked it much and this original wasnât better. You canât rely on Omar Syâs charisma (big as it may be) only to make a good film. This is a forgettable cinema. My rating: 4.5/10
Candy land (Friday night special): A nice little Christmas movie this was. If you go to that townâs mall, Santa Claus is black. I mean, ainât nothing wrong with that. Seriously, though this movie was of pretty good quality and the actresses were all good. I found that the horror aspect lacked a certain something to make the story more gripping and effective but overall, a decent low-budget effort. My rating: 6/10
Porno (Friday late night special): Fell asleep half way through and finished it the next days. This one also has a fairly good cast but the execution was a bit weaker. A few good moments (that shoe laced ball sack was quite funny) some fun dialogues but thatâs about it. It didnât make much sense overall. My rating: 5/10
House (Saturday night special): This has all the ingredients of a good 80s horror comedy plus we get a cool war story in bonus. Very nice. My rating: 7.5/10
(I watched about half an hour of Donnie Darko and although itâs s a pretty cool movie I didnât feel like continuing it and preferred watching the MTL hockey game.)
Slasher Season 1 (Netflix): I started this Canadian series a few years back but never got back to it. I had planned to though. So I finally did this week and it has a solid enough story, sparse but good kills, nice cinematography but itâs the acting that hurts. It was pretty weak except for 4 characters. The worst was the lead actress. She sucked pretty bad. Also, the intro is a crappy attempt to copy AHS. The first episode takes place at Halloween and the last too so that was cool. Like I said, the story kept me involved but is nothing we havenât seen before: âShortly after her return to the small town where her parents were murdered many years ago, Sarah Bennett is horrified when she discovers a new series of murders has begun.â Then we get good characters and bad characters and discover through the episodes that finally, all of them are hiding dark secrets. By the time we get to the last two episodes, there is literally one character left who still have good motives and no dark secrets revealed so it obviously pointed directly to him to be the killer. It did make sense with the story but I found it was the easy way out and pissed me off a little. Earlier in the season I did think to myself âman I hope he ainât the killer, that would suck. My rating: 6.5/10
Fun facts:
-Slasher and Candy Land had religious murders and Porno had religious murdered.
-candy land and Pornoâs connections: same length, start with sex scene, take place in the 90âs, full frontal scene.
