The diary of one of the murderers was used as source material for the script. It's a great movie, gripping and tragic.

Patton (70)

Scott did bear a physical resemblance to General Patton and the movie gave a good account of his high and lows. He was a heroic leader but also a bit kooky and flawed; he believed he was a reincarnated Roman Centurion, was a fatalist who assumed he would likely die for the cause and he did slap around a couple of innocent G.I.s the were suffering PTSD in hospitals.

He was a national hero and rightly so but he could be arrogant, competitive with Allies and difficult to work with. Douglass McArther shared som similarities, the bio American Caesar is a very thick but surprisingly brisk read about him.
