Barbra Streisand versus Lucy Thomas - Evergreen ( A Star is Born )

Barbra from 1976 when she was 34

Technically I think Lucy is the better singer, but then Lucy has been taking singing lessons ever since she was 7 where Barbra gave them up when she was a child. Barbra has the warmer and more mature voice ( naturally as she was 15 years older at the time of recording ) but Barbra has this nasal sound that comes in strongly from time to time and that really grates on me.

Lucy though technically better lacks for emotional expression and warmth in her singing. Her singing has passion and heart but something in the soul department has yet to be properly developed you might say. Hopefully that will come as she gets older.

I'm not a huge fan of post-1960s Streisand (The Way We Were a notable exception, my fave of hers), I'll pick Lucy Thomas over her.

Yes Lara Fabian has a lovely voice. It's usually a problem comparing live versions to studio recordings which Barbra's was and I think Lucy was lip syncing to a studio recording on this occasion, although I could be wrong.

If you like Lara Fabian's voice you might like Agseisa ( from Indonesia ) singing a cover of the Miley Cyrus song 'When I Look At You'. This is also a live recording. She starts off slow and breathy but picks up as she goes along:
