Blackface and casting Black actors as explicitly white characters (i.e. Nazis), is either WRONG (in the former case) or egregiously stupid (in the latter case), so since Jewishness is as much an ethnicity as Blackness is a race, why do filmmakers and showrunners accept Jewface (i.e. casting NON-JEWISH actors as Jews, particularly in Holocaust dramas/stories that revolve around particularly Jewish subject matter) and allow Jewish actors to play white supremacist/racist characters?
Because Jewish people aren't underrepresented in the film industry. Many also hold the highest positions of power in the industry. I don't even hear Jewish people complain about non-Jews playing Jewish characters.
So, if Black people were better represented in film and TV, it would be *okay* for white actors to play Malcolm X, Emmett Till or Solomon Northrup? π€·ββοΈ

Well, no because all of those were real people. It would be a little weird to cast a black person as Queen Charlotte. Oh, wait they did that already. Anyway, "Jewface" isn't a great term. No one is changing the colour of their skin to appear Jewish. It would also be offensive to add a fake Jewish nose. If Jim Carrey played Malcolm X and darkened his skin, we know that would be offensive.
I'm NOT defending Sarah Silverman's racism towards Black people. I'm simply saying that two wrongs (anti-Black racism *and* anti-Semitism) do not make a right.
And yes, I can believe that the man in the photo is Jewish? Is he?
Where is the anti-Semitism in it though? There is nothing anti-Jewish about playing a Jewish role unless you start playing on physical stereotypes like a big nose.
I don't know if that guy is Jewish, but that's my point. No one would be able to tell.
TBF, you're right. And I was wondering if you'd pick that up when I made my post. 'Jew face' isn't anti-Semitism per se; not in the same way that Blackface is racist. But it is appropriation of roles that should be going to authentic Jewish actors, rather than gentile actors 'acting' Jewish.
That guy could be Jewish. There are various gentile actors/individuals who clearly DON'T look and seem Jewish.
Bear in mind that as a child and throughout adulthood, people, including many Jews, have often said to me "You look Jewish."
You don't think there's a problem with non-Jewish actors playing Jewish characters? You don't think there's a problem with non-Jews appropriating the oppression/suffering many Jewish people have experienced?
Also, you're better than this Kowalski. Don't dismiss something because it's a new concept to you. You're smart and generally progressive, but you don't always seem to engage with fresh or minority ('minority' as in little discussed/considered) perspectives.
YOU SAID JEW AND BLACK OR SOME FORM OF THE WORDS TEN TIMES IN YOUR POST...YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING...YOU ARE TRANSPARENT AS FUCK...SO...EVERYONE ELSE KNOWS WHAT YOU ARE DOING TOO.π
