Is that we see the trending topics, which, alas, appear at the moment to be meritricious soft-core porn movies, which TRUE film-fans have NO fucking interest in whatsoever. π
Let's talk about REAL movies, please. The perverts can fuck off to OnlyFans or whatever pervy site of the month is currently 'hot'.
True film fans also enjoy exploitation, B movies and soft core type of films too. I am more of a film buff than most here. I watch critically acclaimed award winners, classics from all genres, and independent art films, but I also enjoy sleazy trash and exploitation films.
I never posted on IMDb (only "lurked"), but I do understand where you're coming from. Having said that, I really love this site and think it has a lot to offer. I realize I'm not really the "typical poster" here (I'll be 54 soon, married with children, more sporadic in my posting, etc.). My boys are pretty much my life right now (and it was a real thrill to finally be back in the theater again recently to see the new Super Mario Bros. movie!).
I've only started posting here since mid-November, but I have noticed there is a real "ebb and flow" with regard to the "Trending Topics." Some days, there are topics that interest me; other days, not so much. But it's all good...we all have different backgrounds, interests, etc. I like the diversity we have here and I've seen a lot of interesting discussions at this site.
Just my $.02. I realize a lot of the long-time posters here also posted for a long time on IMDb. My hat's off to them. I guess what I'm trying to say is, for all the faults this site may have, I really do enjoy it here, and admire the many people here that have so much knowledge about movies (and music, sports, life, etc. π).
Thanks for your feedback. My suspicion is that you're not as different from the typical poster as you might think.
That said, I personally hate seeing posters for porn films/porn stars trending/appearing at the top of the page. Seeing Trump's face at regular intervals is almost as bad.
You may be right! π I understand your feelings and where you're coming from....but I do think people should be free to post on what they wish (although I do like the "No Politics" stipulation for General Discussion).
During the infamous Tipper Gore censorship hearings back in the 80s, I remember Frank Zappa said something along the lines of, "If there's an album cover of a guy with a chainsaw blade between his legs, then it's probably not for little Johnny!" π That's kind of where I guess I come from...if people want to post about Politics and/or porn movies, so be it. It's part of what makes the world go 'round! π Like I said earlier, I appreciate that this site has a separate forum for Politics and that Politics is kept out of General Discussion.
Ah, but that's the point. Back in the IMDb days, if people wanted to post on porn film pages, it wasn't advertised to everyone else. It was all private. In this place, everyone knows everyone else's business, so to speak, which I suppose is good for creating a community, but not so much for allowing everyone their own space.
I make no apologies. Every movie deserves a discussion. We're building up MovieChat's archives so any time, anybody wants to research movie, there will be a resource.
Talk about REAL movies all you want. If people are interested they will follow.
Most of the posts around here never develop into actual conversation unless the people involved are being combative. I think it has less to do with IMDb and more to do with a trend in how people communicate, if you can call that communication.
TBF, I am increasingly finding that THIS board (i.e. the General Discussion board) is where people go to have civil and engaging discussion. Certainly not politics, or most of the individual boards (esp. where it's related to a celebrity as opposed to a film or show). Those boards usually revolve around hot topic issues that often descend into pathetic fights.
Is that it only has a fraction of the traffic of the old IMDb boards. Moviechat is like the old days when there was no Sunday trading and every day here is a Sunday. All we get are a few people going for a walk in the park.
