How is it decided at IMDB which movie an actor is best known for?

I'm on a Deadwood binge and reading actor's bios and come across one Jeffrey Jones. According to IMDB he should be best remembered for Howard the Duck 4.7 rating. How could they forget his Ed. Rooney in Ferris?

It probably has to do with film popularity and prominence in the credits In this case, he was higher billed (hehe) in Howard the Duck than he was in Ferris Bueller, though those are both included in his top four "known for" roles, the others of which are Ed Wood and Amadeus.

Nice pun. You are probably right that billing is a big factor but being saddled with Howard is not right IMO.
