shareFargo ND had nothing to do with the plot, I think it was just someplace the characters talked about. No, IMHO it was the setting of rural Minnesota and the Dakotas that were crucial to the film, that gave the film its atmosphere, a setting strange to most viewers, and which influenced the actions of all the characters.
More than talked about, Wiki sums it up better than I could: "Jerry Lundegaard, the executive sales manager of a Minneapolis Oldsmobile dealership owned by his father-in-law, Wade Gustafson, is desperate for money. On the advice of mechanic and convicted felon Shep Proudfoot, Jerry travels to Fargo, North Dakota, and hires Carl Showalter and Gaear Grimsrud to kidnap his wife, Jean."
But that's it. Fargo really has nothing to do with the rest of the movie.
Still, I think the movie belongs on a list of movies where the location or setting is crucial to the entire film, even if no actual city was involved. If "Body Heat" can be on this list, which is set in a nothing coastal town in Florida, then so can "Fargo".
Setting, yes, Fargo no. Because of their thick Minnesota accents.
shareI don't really understand what you were trying to get across here, but if you're objecting to including "Fargo" because the titular city isn't that important to the movie, then I disgree. Lots of films are included even if they don't have the name of the crucial city or setting in the title, "Vertigo" isn't named after San Francisco, and neither is "Sharknado", even though it's all about LA.
