Facelifts obviously don't work, so why do people keep getting them?

I know. I have two co-workers who've had lots of plastic surgery, including face lifts. They don't look like 30-year-olds, they look like 50-year-olds who've had plastic surgery.

Most plastic surgery is for people who obsess over minor flaws, who just want a flaw eliminated. They can spend their money how they like, and if they want body modification I'm not one to judge. But if they wanted to look younger, they're getting ripped off.

I don't understand why 30 year olds get them. 30!!!

People: "be yourself".

Also people: "I'm going to change myself to make me feel better and look better than you."

It doesn't make sense. Why do women allow themselves to be mutilated and made to look worse and pay a fortune for the privilege ? Personally I think these "cosmetic surgeons" should be charged with crimes against chewmanity and get locked up. And some women need to be protected from their inability to know what is in their best interest in this regard.

Now of course there are successful cosmetic surgery operations. Many good nose jobs have been done for example. But I'm talking about the completely unnecessary disfigurement operations here.

Even Kiernan Shipka for God's sake has gone under the needle and had her lips done. Why, why, why !? To make herself look less attractive than she was ? It is literally a kind of madness.

I've seen good facelifts, but most are done poorly. But, is it a facelift you're observing or the newer Botox injections and fillers? In answer to your question, Americans aren't allowed to have wrinkles. I watch foreign TV and movies where aging is allowed.
