Funny or interesting film title translations
I start, all examples from Israel.
1) This first one is actually good translate marketing wise. The first Top Gun called in Hebrew: Love In The Sky (Ahava B'Shahkim) and the second Love In The Sky: Maverick ('Ahava Ba'Shkhakim: Maverick). Why? first, it's impossible to translate "top gun" to Hebrew and it was less acceptable then to use the foreign name. Second, they realized that the affair between Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis is a source of attraction mainly for the female audience. The soundtrack help a lot.
2) Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) translate in Hebrew to It's Raining Falafel (Geshem Shel Falafel) because Falafel is the unofficial national food in Israel.
3) OK this is really bad one, Horny On Time instead Superbad (2007) again in Hebrew. How any person can buy a ticket to a movie with that title without feel ridiculous and embarrassed.
4) 2 Fast 2 Furious translate to 2 Fast 2 Furious - the problem: it's not make any sense because there is no double meaning in Hebrew to the phrase (two/too). Just laziness.
5) Better than the original is the translate to the movie Happy Death Day (2017). In Israel it's called מז"ל טוב (Maz"al tov) it's a pun for the greeting Mazal Tov. In Hebrew the initials ז"ל ׂ(z"al) ׂׂmeaning rest in peace, we said it when someone died as consolations.
