The "Black Friday" garbage started in early October this year. Normally they would wait until the minute Halloween ended and then the dam would break and we would be inundated with this rubbish all through November.
It has nothing to do with the holidays. This is supposed to be a joyous time of year, not a time to push, shove and trample one another over some shoddy imported junk merchandise. There is no such day as "Black Friday"; this is merely industry jargon which originated with the giant American retailers whose After-Thanksgiving Sales (the proper term) put them "in the black" (an accounting phrase meaning "turning a profit"). "Profit Friday" is not why we have holidays.
Sadly, this garbage has spilled over the border into Canada, and has now begun infecting some European countries. It's a cancer that needs to be stopped. We can start by eliminating the term from the lexicon:
If you live in the U.S., November 24, 2022 is Thanksgiving Day, a HOLIDAY, not a day for stores to be open.
November 25 is the day after Thanksgiving. Stores are conducting After-Thanksgiving Sales, which are just another sale, not some earth-shaking must-attend event. This is one of the biggest scams foisted upon the gullible general public. If someone truly wishes to save money there are sales being conducted all throughout the year that offer much better savings than this one.
If you live outside of the U.S., November 25 is just that... November 25.
What Black Friday ad???? π€π€π€·ββοΈπ€·ββοΈ
shareMozilla Firefox Browser. No ads.
shareI haven't seen it.
shareHaven't seen it either but ALL black Friday ads are annoying.
I know people who go crazy for black Friday shopping. I wouldn't be caught dead participating in this madness.
It's pathetic how some people get so hyped up over a fabricated "holiday." They act as if it's some sort of special occasion and don't care one bit about Thanksgiving. It's sad how a day set aside for giving thanks and taking a break has been pushed aside in favor of an event based on greed, materialism and crass consumerism. How often do your hear "Thanksgiving" mentioned in November advertising compared to this "Black Friday" garbage?
The holiday season is not a time to shove and trample one another, get into fistfights over parking spaces, or engage in animalistic behavior. And for what? Some shoddy, imported junk merchandise?
These After-Thanksgiving Sales (the proper designation) have turned into one of the biggest scams ever foisted upon the general public. There are many sales being conducted all throughout the year that offer much better savings than this one, yet every year the gullible public eats this stuff up. The retailers and advertising industry are experts at brainwashing.
It's sad to see that this insanity has crossed the border into Canada and has begun infecting some European countries. It's a spreading cancer that needs to be stopped.
Save the holiday season.
They start lining up outside the store about noon on Thanksgiving. Destinata, Black Friday really has more of a detrimental effect on Thanksgiving than it does on Christmas, because it takes people away from the Thanksgiving table and turns them into pillaging Orks. The worst manners you will ever see will be on Black Friday. I once had an obnoxious grease stain come back and complain to me that βYou did not give me enough time on Black Friday!β Hey, genius, thatβs like complaining that the thunderstorm got you wet.
The true spirit of Christmas has been bastardized for decades. Black Friday just kind of supercharges the materiality and greed.
