Have/would you ever work for the police?

I applied to be a forensic scientist for my local state police several times, but I wouldn't want to be a uniformed officer....

reply

i remember going to a recruitment seminar when they explained if you've ever did hallucinogens you weren't eligible to join the department

reply

Damn....

reply

How would they know that?

reply

Lie detector, i don't know. i went ahead & took the test & aced the physical challenge. they later said my listed references were unqualified.

reply

"my listed references were unqualified"

That's odd.

reply

odd, no it was a mistake on my part but some things aren't meant to be. do you know now they give you 15k bonus for becoming a cop.

reply

You would've only kept about 7k after taxes, anyway.

reply

No

reply

A policeman's lot is not a happy one. 🎵

reply

Wow! A G&S fan on moviechat, who'da thunk it?

reply

No, but my father was a police officer until he passed away from motor neuron disease. He was a good cop who was well respected in the force, but there was a lot about the job that didn’t sit well with him and he always warned me away from a career in the force.

reply

My Dad was also a Cop and he was brave and honest as well. He loved his 20 years on The Force and had a thousand wild stories. He once helped deliver a baby in a car and helped talk a jumper safely off a clock tower. He was most proud that he only drew his pistol 5 or 6 times in his career and never had to fire it at anyone.

reply

Only if they let me stay neutral in the war on drugs.

reply

Way too dangerous these days.

reply

I don't have it in me to be a uniformed officer, but when I was considering a career change I thought about being a 911 dispatcher. I could do that, if I had to.

reply

No. The police is basically a white supremacy group. The same goes for firefighters. I wouldn't fit in as a visible minority and would be treated poorly.

reply

I don't know, a weekly bath, regular meals and treats besides. Doesn't sound too bad !

reply

You are so wrong my friend. Almost all (probably 99% or higher) police and firefighters are loyal civil servants of all races, creeds, colors, and gender. Don't let the few bad apples that get the headlines spoil your view of the majority of them.

reply

I'm assuming you live in the States judging from your username. Maybe it's different down there compared to Canada. But if you look at the links I posted above, that is clear evidence of obvious racial discrimination. Especially for cities like Edmonton and Montreal which have fairly diverse populations.

reply

Oh c’mon. If your home catches fire or some creep tries breaking in you’re gonna call those ‘White Supremacists’ as you call them immediately. Most people run away from danger, they are trained to run toward it.

reply

"Most people run away from danger, they are trained to run toward it."

Oh, you mean like the Uvalde cops outsmarted by some 18 year kid with a gun?

reply

Fair point, that was an egregious case of failure to act at the cost of innocent young lives.

But every profession has incompetents and slackers and downright lousy people amongst the ranks.

Some teachers touch kids.
Some Accountants defraud.
Some Athletes dope up.

Are you telling me that if your kitchen was on fire or a junkie boosted your car you wouldn’t call the Authorities?
