Ever been to Quebec?

I've only been there once when I went bungee jumping. Seems like a fascinating and unusual place in North America.

reply

Where did you go bungee jumping? Did you just pop into Quebec for the jump and then leave?

reply

Yep. I literally just drove 20 minutes north of Ottawa crossed border to Quebec and did the jump. I was a bit nervous as I don't know French but they were pretty accomodating.

It's called the "Great Canadian Bungee". It's the biggest one in Canada. In fact, just a few days, the prime minister Justin Trudeau just did this same jump. https://nationalpost.com/news/trudeau-plunges-from-tallest-bungee-jump-in-canada

Montreal is fairly friendly to Anglos. My French isn't great, but I've not had a problem there. Quebec city was easy as well. It's a gorgeous city.

reply

I wanna see the Ice Hotel in Quebec City. 🧊

reply

I wanna see Montreal someday. And Quebec City.

reply

Incredibly, I've never even been to Canada.

reply

I've best describe it as "USA's boring little brother".

reply

Then you should move to the USA.

I'm sorry, but as a Canadian that is just a really horrible way to describe us.

reply

Quebec is my favorite place. I want to move to Montreal.

reply

Do you know French?

reply

Intermediate level.

When I was there, they would say something in both languages and then wait to see which language the response was in to continue the conversation. But, I was only in the touristy cities. Other areas are likely less bilingual.

The food was exceptional even at regular small diners. People were friendly and plenty to do. It was many years ago so it could've changed.

reply

Quebec City is my favourite city in Canada.

reply

Yes, I have been to Montreal many times. Definitely a place I like a great deal.
You see, I went to summer camp up in Vermont and approximately 1/4 of the kids were from Montreal.
Thus I had a lot of friends from there whom I visited several times.
I even flew from Miami to Montreal in January, 1973.
It was 83 degrees when I left Miami and 17 below (Fahrenheit) when we landed at Dorval Airport, a difference on 100 degrees in a 3 hour span.
I had a great tan when I left Miami, but as soon as I walked out of the terminal, it cracked and fell off.
Oh well, such is life in a deep freeze.

That being said, my favorite city in Canada that I've been to still has to be Vancouver, B.C.
I spent 2 1/2 months there on an extended business trip back in 1980.
Had a wonderful time in a beautiful part of North America.

reply

Never been to any part of America:

Would like to visit Canada though eh

Depends if you mean the province or the city.

As for the province; I live in it.

As for the city, it is 6 hours drive from me and been there about 6 times.

reply

Have you seen "I Confess" (1953)?

reply

The Hitchcock movie?

reply

Yeah, they filmed the entire thing in Quebec City. It's crazy how much of it still looks the same.

reply

Cool, I didn't know that.

reply

The last scene takes place in their classic hotel. I only went inside once briefly, but spent an afternoon right beside it.

If you ever visited Quebec City, the entire film is like a memorable time capsule.
