Placebo - Running Up That Hill

(OK, it was on OC... but I think most of the plays came after Stranger Things used the original)
I think Running up that Hill is a lot of people's favorite song. We've had some other posts covering that song.
shareI got a guitar cover of G.O.A.T by Polyphia (Xlezzy) on my YT channel:

Very impressive guitar piece.
shareYeah this song is one of the hardest pieces on guitar. It's mind bogglingly hard. The original was written by Tim Henson who is an amazing guitarist.
If you want to see some impressive acoustic guitar playing, then check this young Polish guitarist Marcin.
You thought G.O.A.T was crazy, this is Marcin playing Kashmir on acoustic:

Here's Moonlight Sonata:

Talk about mind boggling...
Holy crap that was amazing. I will pass that on.
I really only get into guitar picking/acoustic stuff because my ex husband plays guitar. He got me interested from watching Eric Clapton.
I got one more thing for you. This might make you LOL or at the very least smile:

This is Andre Antunes. What he does is take clips of crazy people screaming or ranting, and then creates heavy metal music around the rant. It's both funny and really amazing guitar playing. It's crazy what he's able to pull off.
I'm not a joker when it comes to music. I like to hear something familiar with a unique twist. A Beatles song sung by Smashing Pumpkins, Pink singing Frank Sinatra etc....
shareYeah I got you. I think the best cover of a song was Jimi Hedrix covering Bob Dylan's 'All Along the Watchtower'. The original song was just kind of meh, and Hendrix turned it into one of the greatest songs ever.
But I don't know if that is your kind of music.
One that you might like is A-Ha's unplugged version of their song 'Take on Me'. I don't know if that is the kind of twist you're looking for, and it's the same band, but the original was just a fun 80's type of song, and the unplugged is just hauntingly beautiful. Kind of makes you want to cry.

Hendrix not one of my favorites with 1 song, very overrated...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH8Mp0LnSYI
shareI don't like the live version, but the studio version is pretty dope.
I remember about 15 years ago I recorded a cover of it. I played all the parts, even the drums, and I'm not a drummer (Piano and Guitar only). It took me 2 months to learn how to play it on drums. I loved playing the solos. Played them to perfection, just like Hendrix. There is a part where he does slide guitar with an echo effect, I read in a book that he was playing slide guitar with a Zippo lighter when he recorded it, so when I recorded it I did all the slide parts with lit Zippo. LOL.
It still comes down to 3 guitar songs with a little singing, how is this guy a legend?
shareRight time and place. You got to understand that most of the the great guitar stuff came after him, in fact he was the inspiration for a lot of it. After him, in the 70's, you had a new way of playing, and the rise of guitar gods like Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, and later Van Halen. It's not that he was technically a great player, but he was innovative. He is actually associated with creating the signature electric guitar sound — that distorted sound that became a staple of all rock music after the 60's. He was an inspiration to Clapton. Clapton was considered kind of a proto guitar god in the 60's. When Clapton saw Hendrix play he was blown away. He incorporated some of his sound. Of course later Clapton changed his style completely and had a gentle bluesy type of sound.
shareI'm just not sure I see it. Thats ok. I've never been impressed by him. He's on line with Eddie Van Halen who I also don't really like.
shareNot easy to find a great acoustic cover of Skid Row.
