I mispronounced "cache" the other day.
I didn't realize the e was silent. I am deeply ashamed.

shareI have a strong feeling you pronounce paper mache: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0zr2sXszYM&t=47s
shareLove it! George told her off, saw the bill and wanted 4 dollars. Good for George😆
shareCache = cash
Diskette = dis-cat
Meme = meem
Coupe = coop
Yeah, Frans people are weird.
Diskette (a word on its way to antiquity) == dis-kette - I've never heard it pronouced diskcat oncet in my life...
Like Suzette, or serviette, or Lionel Train set (another anachronism)
Me either, but maybe most people have been pronouncing it wrong. Some words aren't pronounced anything like they are spelled, like cache.
shareHow do you province ‘Gif?’
Do you use a J or a G sound..?
I’m never really sure how to say it and this is important to all of us.
Hard G gif. Learned the hard way from some snarky gen Zers.
shareThe inventor of the format goes with a soft G. It makes me feel like I'm not totally wrong doing the same. Some people have very strong opinions on this important issue. I don't think it's anything to get snarky about, though.
shareYeah, I’ve heard disagreements about this word before.
I think I’ll just continue to be bi-gifual and say it both ways🤓
No, Jiff is peanut butter.
shareSince the word that the 'G' stands for is a hard sound, I go with that...
shareI work in software, have been pronouncing it jiff, without casual or stern reproof, for decades...
either way is, i think, fine.
Hard ‘G’.
shareWell, there's the English "cache", meaning a stash of something, and then there's the French "cache", with an accent over the last "e". They're pronounced differently, although they're spelled the same on an English-language word processor that doesn't do accent marks.

You’re being too hard on yourself, Haslet. There is a similar-sounding word, “cachet,” from French, which means “the state of being respected or admired; prestige.” That word is pronounce “cash-ay.” You may have heard this word in conversation and confused it with “cache,” which means “a stash.”
shareI give you credit for being willing to correct your mistake. There are people who pronounce words the wrong way and are told they are doing so, yet they don't bother to change it.
