Parrot head or Deadhead?
Which are you? I guess some people are both. I'm not either but I know more Buffett songs.

shareI think I am the resident Movie Chat Discussion Board Deadhead. There are a couple other fans here, but that's about it.
First Show: 5/1/77 The Palladium, NYC
Best Show: Hard to beat 1977!
I've seen Jimmy Buffett once, at Madison Square Garden in 2007. I was more impressed with the crowd than the show. The happiest, most cheerful concertgoers I've ever experienced. The show was quite respectable, but I've never been back.
Jimmy's fans really seem to love him. Some of the songs that I do know I really like but I wouldn't consider myself a Parrot Head. Haven't heard that much Grateful Dead but have I heard that they're fans really love them too.
shareFirst Dead show Rich Stadium, Buffalo 7/4/89. Saw all six MSG Vince debut shows with Bruce Hornsby in 1990. Still have those master tapes, God knows why. Fave show may be NYE 89 with Branford Marsalis.
The only things I know about Jimmy Buffett is he likes tropical shirts and drinks.
My post early 1980s attendance was pretty spotty. But I have quite a few recordings, which are a world easier to obtain now than back in the day. I do have 7/4/89 which as you must well know is a highly rated show. 1990 had lots of great stuff, the most well-known must be Bradford Marsalis at Nassau Coliseum, immortalized on "Wake Up to Find Out." For the Garden shows I have Road Trips Vol. 2 No. 1, and an audience recording of 9/16.
I finally got a chance to see Branford, playing with "The Dead," April, 2009, at Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey. Great show.
Given my most-loved and listened-to years are 71-76. I understand. After a brief fun run of thirty-five shows, my last show was in 92. (SoCal somewhere) The hassle of traffic, parking and crowds wasn't worth the magic I got in return. Once Jerry died I couldn't thus far bring myself to recapture the it. Great to hear Jimmy Herring became a regular, as he was a super nice guy in the early 90s as was the whole Aquarium Rescue Unit, who'd hang out after their shows. The small venue model became my live music addiction delivery method from then on. Still listen to my favorite Dead "tapes" including ones from the 90s, but my music tastes exploded and I listen to pretty much everything other than pop nowadays.
Ah, the Meadowlands, saw many a non-Dead show there, but was lucky enough to see the "second new Darkstar" on 10/16/89 there. The farthest south I got was D.C., iirc.
I have about 10-15 Dead songs that I adore.
Can't think of a single Buffett song that I care for. But the man has made a nice living of it, give him that.
I've always unhooked the Dead's music from the Dead's 'scene'. They were traveling the musical landscape for 30 years, and put together some priceless work. The jamband stuff I didn't care for, they 'funky' stuff I didn't care for. I liked what I liked, and that I liked quite a it.
Also Jerry's bluegrass work with Old & In The Way.
Neither band to be honest.
Both have a few good hits but I’m not rabid about either, I did grow up with a hardcore Deadhead but he was usually very high, we did not always get along so well…he went to State Prison for a few years and he was really tough to talk to in general…I offered him a landscaping job but the guy could never pick up the phone.
I eventually stopped calling that Dude. He followed the Dead across America in the very early 90s and got busted for cocaine distribution in Missouri … When you get sentenced to ‘3 years’ in Missouri they fucking very well mean 3 Years! Don’t screw around in Missouri…my buddy called it The State of Misery.
Chris was slightly a prick before he went into the can, he came out with jail tattoos and wouldn’t speak a word of what went on in there.
He wouldn’t take a grass mowing job either and really I needed the help.
Hope He’s still alive!
I swear this is the image my mom had of The Dead. When I played a DVD of them (Winterland 12/31/78) many years after I was first a fan, she couldn't quite believe it--this was not some thrash metal band by the longest of longshots.
shareI knew plenty of fans in High School and they were never any bother, I just didn’t hang with them because for whatever silly reason Metal heads and Dead heads never hung out together.
Teens can be stupid like that😄
I absolutely hate The Grateful Dead (sorry nyctc), so definitely not that.

Better than Grateful Dead to be honest.
shareWarren Oates is on the case!
He’s probably going to be fairly drunk and argumentative but he’ll get the job done👍
Neither. The Grateful Dead were too hippie-ish and Jimmy Buffet's "beach bum" persona and lifestyle never appealed to me.
I was more into "art" or progressive rock, "new wave" and the synthesized sound of the early 1980s.
i have been listening to some of the grateful dead songs of late. they are not a bad group and deserved more radio play.
shareParrot head
shareThe Grateful Dead were a little before my time, but I've seen Phil Lesh and Friends at a few festivals, so I'll go with them.
