Because it has a high alcohol content and most say avoid contact with eyes as it can irritate or damage them, not to mention what it can do to the skin.

I have no idea whether it's a he, a she or any other of the 31 flavors and I don't care. If I call it by the incorrect pronoun that would be "insensitive", so 'it' is safe, for me.

"they" is a safe pronoun if you aren't sure. It's not radical, it's not asking you to do something you haven't done before without even thinking about. We use they for single individuals all the time.
I'll try and keep that in mind, however, often times when I hear "they" in this sort of context, it sounds as if more than one person is being talked about.

I agree. I actually support the idea of a non-binary identity, because people have so many silly ideas about what men or women should be, and I totally support anyone's right to show whatever face they want to the world and to form their self-image without reference to society's silly ideas about sex, but...
I can't fully support any cause that abuses the English language so badly! Using "they" and "their" creates nightmares of syntax!
