Mods - Has Jim immortalized this site?

Once was a part of the nice community, but the site died when the owner unexpectedly passed away. He was brilliant, but had made no provision for the site to be maintained in his absence.

Mods, I hope you put this question to Jim, and such provisions are made, for obvious reasons.

reply

"Jim doesn't care about MovieChat people!"
- Kanye North

reply

OMG, Mike Myers looked so uncomfortable when Kanye North said that!

reply

And then sudden cut to Chris Trucker πŸ‘ πŸ‘„ πŸ‘

"In the past few days..."

reply

Yup, they sure cut away from that mess immediately πŸ˜†

reply

whistleblower

reply

The Lord Jim giveth and the Lord Jim taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord Jim.

reply

bump for the mods.

reply

You obviously know everything at 4000 posts. This is one time when I say Everything is Fine, and I mean it.

reply

Buzz off. Its a legitimate question courteously posed, with good reason and experience with a site that came down upon the death of the creator. Shit happens. If you have actual information on the matter, let's hear it, mr. 19000 posts and change.

reply

I'd say you were a crazy, but I think that is obvious.

reply

Why in the f are you attacking me for asking a reasonable question ? If anyone is coming off poorly here, it is you.

I've given the reason for my concern, its not hard to understand.

People around here know me, sport, and know that I am a reasonable man.

reply

Wait, who died?

reply

No one. But when any site is run by a single person, the question of its ability to survive its creator's incapacity becomes an issue. We're not immortal.

If you read the OP, you will understand the reason for my concern. I CARE about this site, its continuity.

reply

I read it 4 times and still don't comprehend it.

" I CARE about this site, its continuity."

Then maybe post less πŸ’©

reply

Your incomprehension is not my problem, but I'll put it this way : If Jim hasn't given anyone else access to the website and goes off-line permanently, and the lease expires, the site shuts down.

reply

Your problem is your nonsensical OP

You do realize there is a mod or two here? Someone has access. Also nothing lasts forever.

In fairness I do get what you are saying after I fixed your grammatical errors.

reply

Mods don't have access to the hosting / source code / database / etc.

reply

Exactly. Maybe this isn't clear to everyone. These sites don't run forever without the owner and/or admin's care & feeding.

reply

You can't say that for sure. That is pure speculation.

reply

One of the mods told us years ago.

reply

OK.

reply

Maybe some people simply don't understand how websites work, how intrinsically -personal- they are, unless some provision of sharing access & maintenance is made.

This thread exists merely to stimulate the mods to establish a chain-of-custody for the site with the owner - its a commitment the community has a right to expect.

I'm not going to respond to further snarky comments. If you don't get it, you don't get it.

reply

No we don't pay anything for using this site so we have no right to expect anything. And suggesting that we do is a bit rude frankly.

reply

Sure we do. We are a community. We contribute to this site, make it worth coming to. Try not to think of this as a strictly proprietary relation. Communities rely upon trust - one aspect of that is that the community is being looked after and won't blink out of existence if one guy does. Its common sense.

reply

You care way too much for something the owner himself has abandoned.

reply

[deleted]

Jim has not abandoned MovieChat. True, it's been a minute since any new features have been added, but he is still around and responds to urgent matters promptly.

reply

Thanks. Please communicate the concern expressed, if you would. I'm sure he would understand, as I hope you and the other mods, as well.

reply

That's good to know. Thanks for the info.
