Did McDonald's actually taste better 20 years ago?

I hear people say that. I'm 20 so I can't comment. Has the food changed or just boomers taste buds?

Two words: beef lard:. It's delicious for frying but everybody stopped using it because it's ridiculously unhealthy.

No it was when the vegetarians started complaining about it. Then they changed over to 100% vegetable oil.

Chinese food all over the world still use pork lard to this day yet they are also still the most populous.

I don't know about McDonald's specifically (it's always been garbage and I haven't eaten there in years) but there has been a general trend towards lower-quality ingredients, decreased portion sizes and lousier service at most restaurants. I would say this started around the mid- to late-1990s and the pace has quickened in recent years.

Subway is a prime example. I remember when they first arrived in my area they had some of the best sandwiches in town. As they opened more locations, the quality of their food and service began to slowly erode. It started when they quit giving out the stamps which you would affix to a card, enabling you to get a free six-inch sub when you filled the card. It looked like this: https://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/352767/file-1801501216-jpg/sub_club.jpg?t=1456422752970

My final Subway sandwich consisted of a dry bun crammed full of lettuce, leaving little room for the four paper-thin slices of lunch meat, the kind that can be found at any supermarket. I stopped doing business with them about ten years ago, and can only imagine how much further they've degraded since.

This seems to be happening everywhere, and it includes the food products found at supermarkets.

Yeah cost cutting and portion shrinking sucks.

I'm 40 and I think it tastes the same as it did when I was young. Like deliciously sickening crap.
