"No, you're fine."

What is the proper response to this odd utterance that seems to be everywhere now?

I nominate, in a slightly louder tone, with bug eyes, "No, you're fine!"

Of course, if two participants get involved in an escalating "no, you're fine" cycle, anyone is welcome to break them up, yelling "neither one of you is fine, get the hell out of here!"

reply

"Thank you."

A wife can ask her husband if she was fat or not...and the husband answers by saying no. So, when you ask someone do I feel ok to you, the answer could be yes or no.

I am out of the loop here. Who is saying "No, you're fine" and what is it in response to?

reply

Around here, young people (under 35?:) seem to throw it in almost every conversation, similar to "no problem" or "no worries"... I don't know, maybe it's regional?

I can't even tell what triggers it, and I usually have no idea how to respond. I mean, I know I'm not fine, but should I be revealing that to this random person?

reply

Just adjust your cap, give them a hard look and respond with ‘You’re goddam right I am boy.’

They’ll shut right the hell up

reply

"Fine? I'm better than fine! Fine is for losers!"

reply

Ooh, that’s even better!

And if they have on skinny jeans or an ‘ironic’ T-shirt and excessively untrimmed facial hair call them ‘punks’

That’ll shut their yappers😉

reply

I've not been exposed to that, but then again I was never a cool kid. I have no idea how I'd respond.

reply

If a guy says it I hardly pay attention:

‘Hey Bobby, did I park too close you your car?’

‘No, you’re fine.’

Now if my wife says ‘No, you’re fine’ I figure I’m in very big trouble😣
