Favorite Classic Comedies

What are some of you guys' favorite comedy movies that are considered classics?

Here are some of mine, in no particular order:

The Pink Panther (1964)
The Princess Bride (1987)
Some Like It Hot (1959)
Young Frankenstein (1974)
Tootsie (1982)
My Man Godfrey (1936)

reply

The Thin Man movies, Blazing Saddles, Airplane, Naked Guns, Top Secret

reply

Blazing Saddles is gold. Mel Brooks is a comedic genius. Airplane is a great one too. Gotta love Leslie Nielson!

Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993)

reply

That's a great one. "Strucky has loxed again." And the whole sequence of Blinkin on the lookout platform. Never gets old. XD

reply

- Are you with me, yea or nay?
- Which one means yes?
- Yea.
- Yea!

reply

Hahaha!

Robin Hood: Blinkin, I'd like you to meet Ahchoo.
Blinkin: A Jew? Here?
Robin Hood: No no, not a Jew. Ahchoo.

My Favorite Year
Some Like It Hot
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Manhattan
Princess Caraboo

reply

My Cousin Vinny! I haven't seen that one in years. I remember really liking it. I need to rewatch it. It was great seeing Fred Gwynne (who I first saw as Herman from The Munsters) as the judge. :)

reply

I used to bump into Fred’s daughter on the Boston nightclub scene. She looks EXACTLY like her father—in a wig. The Gwynnes are very smart people. Have you seen Princess Caraboo? It’s a very sweet and funny movie.

reply

That’s so neat! I would have asked her all kinds of questions about her father, haha. Fred always came across as an intelligent man. He certainly could make me laugh. He and Al Lewis together were a great comedic duo, both in The Munsters and in Car 54, Where Are You. I have not seen Princess Caraboo but I know of the actual story. I just looked up the movie. I’ll have to watch it! It sounds like one I’d really enjoy!

Stripes (1981)
Caddyshack (1980)
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
Animal House (1978)
Arthur (1981)

reply

Caddyshack is awesome. Bill Murray is perfection in that. I still need to see Stripes (I know, I know, where have I been?). I like Animal House a lot. I didn't expect to because generally I'm not big on "frat boy" humor, but John Belushi was hilarious.

reply

You MUST see Stripes! I think it's better than Caddyshack! The entire cast is stellar.

reply

I just realized it's on Netflix. I'll definitely be checking it out in the near future! :)
