Your favorite song over ten minutes long

I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Either movement 1 or 3 from Scheherazade (it really does depend on the tempo set by the conductor if they actually are over 10 minutes or not )

where's the singing?

By today's standard most non musicians consider any piece of music a song. Technically this would be a symphony, but I didn't know you were being so technical.

I don't have a favourite song over 10 minutes as I think most of them suck because there is so much filler. I'm not a fan of long guitar solos which a lot of the longer songs have. They are too much like improv in Jazz, and while I don't hate Jazz it's not my favourite type of music. I also think that a song over 10 minutes needs to have different movements, which again, a lot of them don't seem to have.

i was just teasing.

reply

Oh, I wasn't being snarky in my response. I'm actually pleased that 2 people have mentioned that some choices aren't technically songs. I should have put a smiley emoji.

I did mean what I said about long songs though, that's I picked what I did.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd (Parts I-V) (counts as one track) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54W8kktFE_o

a good one.

Rhapsody In Blue - George Gershwin

Not actually a song - but that would be my choice too.

Kashmir - Led Zeppelin about 8.23 (depending on the version).
The Who - I Won’t Get Fooled Again about the same.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama, same again.
By this point I got bored and said f**k it, can’t go wrong with Gershwin, lol.

I was looking for the Larry Adler version on a very old TV program on YouTube which was where I first heard Rhapsody In Blue. Could not find it but did stumble on Kate Bush & Larry Adler - The Man I Love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PRYhDItPT0&list=PLvYULPSAA6WO4bgGm71ZYyKq692-y6MkF&index=3
Which caught me by surprise and may now be my new favourite Kate Bush song.

reply

I have the album, it’s very good.

reply

None of these songs are 10 minutes long though.

reply

That was my exact point in my response to huwdj. If you go back and read it again in context, then it will make more sense.

That was my second choice
