It went exactly as planned. The plan itself was neglectful and idiotic, but that hasn't stopped the cops from playing with their toys in the past.

reply

i don't think that is what they had planned.

reply

They planned for one outcome and expected something different. What happened was unexpected.

reply

semantics

reply

If that's the case, then there's no definitive way to plan for arrogance and gross oversight, is there?

reply

Don't hire complete idiots into the bomb squad. They had no way of knowing the chemical makeup of the explosives they were detonating, while there are numerous transport issues with moving explosives anything is safer than deciding to detonate 2000kg of unknown explosives inside a truck in the middle of the city.

reply

I would agree, that went exactly as planned. There are a plethora of videos about how not to dispose of illegal explosives, putting 2000kgs in one location is now the latest to join the list. Hard to believe though that they intentionally ignited them rather than found they ignited during transport, you have to be really stupid to think a truck is designed to withstand 2000kg of home made explosives.

reply

i am sure they thought the explosion would be more contained.

Fireworks disposal is meant to happen at a bomb range specifically because fireworks are bombs... there are tons of cases of fireworks disposal going wrong even at a controlled bomb range. So in what universe does it make sense to detonate 2000kg of explosives inside a city?

I can't find the safety video, but one particular case that stands in my mind is another case where people wanted to take shortcuts in the disposal of illegal fireworks and filled a barrel with the insides of the fireworks, soaked them in gasoline, then tried igniting it all off. This actually happened at a bomb range but the results were disastrous (many explosives left the barrel) and worse, we now had a flaming barrel full of explosives which hadn't gone off yet creating an even more dangerous situation.

I recall another safety video explaining how storing too many explosives in the same place caused an issue where an employee developed a static charge and ignited them all..

You don't take shortcuts in the disposal of explosives.

If he hadn't fallen off a cliff recently, Wile E. Coyote would call be call into news shows as a pundit today via a dynamite-stuffed tin can attached to a burning electrical wire and say, "Those cops were dumb to think it wouldn't explode."

reply

obviously they thought there would be an explosion just not as big.

reply

Obviously, anyone who has even the slightest bit of college education would recognize that detonating unknown explosives in a closed container in the middle of a city is a recipe for disaster... let alone 2000kg of such explosives. They literally put together their own IED and set it off.

reply

So you're saying you're not college educated?

reply

i am not a demotion/bomb expert.

reply

So what part of detonating an unknown explosive inside a closed container (which, by the way, amplifies an explosion) in the middle of a city being completely idiotic are you having problems with? You don't need to be a bomb expert to know basic explosives handling, though it helps if you're required to have training because your job puts you around them every day.

reply

controlled demolitions are done all the time in cities around the world.

reply

"i am not a demotion/bomb expert. "

So you appear to be claiming to be an expert in something you're also claiming not to be an expert in. I guess that your title of "expert" only applies when you can't admit how incredibly stupid something is, but when asked to explain exactly how you'd think it would go you say "I'm not an expert"

reply

where did i say i was an expert?

reply

Did they intend to blow it up? Or were the explosives not safe to be moved and they blew up accidentally?

reply

they blew it up

reply

They intended to blow the illegal fireworks up, they didn't expect the explosion to demolish their expensive containment truck.
