> I can never know for sure if he is guilty. It all sounds very damning. But there is ALWAYS a mob of accusers when a celebrity's money and proxy-fame is on the table.
Agreed. Liars aren't confined to one gender, and I'm sure the MeToo crowd contained its share of slanderers. But I think the criminal justice system usually gets it right in guilty verdicts. It's far more difficult to convict an innocent person than to keep a guilty one from being convicted.
I'll give you one person's take on Cosby, for what it's worth. Just after the accusations started publicly multiplying, comedian Jimmie Walker did some gigs in Lexington, KY. At that time WLEX's noon news program was 45 minutes of news followed by a 15 minute interview with a guest. They had Walker on as the guest on this day.
The anchor started off by explaining for the audience's benefit that these 12:45 interviews were arranged weeks in advance, and when they had booked Walker the scandal with Cosby hadn't happened yet. She then turned to Walker and said, "You've known Bill Cosby for a long time. You've worked with him. I'm sorry to put you on the spot, but it's news and I have to ask."
"I understand," Walker said.
"What's your reaction to the accusations against him?"
"The only thing that surprises me is that anyone was surprised by this," Walker said. "I thought everybody knew."
