A question for Canadians
What are you hearing about the US/Canadian border opening back up?
I would love to go to the Canadian Rockies later this summer.

people want to know when

Frustrating.
shareBanff doesn't want tourists right now. It's tough to say. Canada is behind on vaccinations, so who knows, the US might not want to open the border
shareI wasn't aware of that - but I was hoping to go late August/early September.
shareIt's weird. I know that our vaccination percentage is getting better, but so many of us are waiting for our second shots with no idea when it's going to happen. Tourist spots are hot spots for transmission, and is usually full of tourists from all over. Since we are still allowing international flights who knows???
I will say that the Rockies are great during the winter as well. Skiing is great, walking Maligne Canyon in winter is amazing, the dark sky festival in Jasper is lovely, or even just going to the dark sky preserve in winter is magical, walking on lake louise when it's frozen is fun, so if you can't make it in the summer, consider coming during the winter.
That would be wonderful, but my husband has mobility issues and and winter trip would be difficult.
shareYou’re really selling Canada too me! 😆
shareCanada has moved ahead of the US in first shots.
shareFirst shots yes. I had my first dose April 1st and I still don't qualify for a getting my second with no idea when that will be.
shareMan, hownos, you keep harping over the fact that Canada has moved ahead of the U.S. in first shots.
But have they really moved ahead?
The population of Canada is approx. 37 million people.
The population of the United States is approx. 329 million.
49.3% of Canada's population has received their first shot. That equals to approx. 18,241,000 people.
48.6% of the U.S. population has received their first shot. That equals to approx. 159,920,000 people.
Are you really comparing almost 160 million people to 18.25 million people?
Then you have the second shot statistics.
According to that website you linked to on your other thread, "just slightly over 4% of Canada's population has received their second shot," while 38.5% of the U.S. population has received their second vaccination.
So that's approx. 1.5 million Canadians who have received both shots as compared to approx. 126,665,000 Americans who have received both shots.
Please note that I'm having a tough time believing that that "slightly more than 4%" figure that was quoted in the link you provided is accurate.
How the hell is that second vaccination figure for Canada so incredibly low?
I could swear that there was a typo in that 4% figure.
We haven't had the supply that's why the second doses are much lower. My point was that Canada will end up with a much higher percentage of the population vaccinated in the end. The American numbers are starting to plateau.
sharecanada made a decision to pursue a single dose strategy. given the supply limitations we had a few months back, which the us didn't face, that was almost certainly the best decision under the circumstances. it's better to have a lot of people with single-dose coverage than half that fully vaxxed.
and luckily, it appears that delaying the second dose is actually resulting in higher efficacy rates, so we may have stumbled into a better long-term outcome.

The UK’s decision to delay second doses of coronavirus vaccines has received fresh support from research on the over-80s which found that giving the Pfizer/BioNTech booster after 12 weeks rather than three produced a much stronger antibody response.
A study led by the University of Birmingham in collaboration with Public Health England found that antibodies against the virus were three-and-a-half times higher in those who had the second shot after 12 weeks compared with those who had it after a three-week interval.
my questions :
do you go hard into the corners ?
do you press into the low slot ?
do you keep your shots low ?
above all, do you back check or are you floaty ?
hopefully your answer for all of these is yes.
i am not a big fan of maple syrup.
shareAre there knighthoods for performing arts?
Will we ever say "Sir Rick Moranis?"
