German made war movies
I have watched Das Boot (1981) and Stalingrad (1993) in the past week and both were excellent. Any others?

shareThe ones I've seen other the two you cite. Turns out they aren't combat films. The last two are of interest because they were made in East Germany.
Downfall (2008)
Sophie Scholl: The Final Days (2005)
The Counterfeiters (2007)
Naked Among Wolves (1963)
Jacob the Liar (1974)
> Downfall (2008)
A very good movie. Pity that most know it only for Hitler clips on Youtube.

Funny! And a nice touch of realism, his ordering a veggie lovers pizza -- Der Fuehrer was a vegetarian.
shareI caught that, too 😄
shareWhen I Googled "fuehrer" to make sure I was spelling it correctly I stumbled across something I had never heard of. There's a company in Nebraska which makes a product called Fuehrer's Cheespred. It's "made with a blend of American cheese, cheddar cheese, salad dressing, pimentos, green peppers and a slight touch of garlic." The company was founded in 1946 by a returning war veteran. He's since passed away and his daughter now runs the company. She signs her name Dee Fuehrer. https://www.fuehrerscheespred.com/
I'd try some but it doesn't seem possible to order it online. They list stores it's available in, but all of them are in Nebraska. If I'm ever there I'll have to check it out.
It's WWI (and American-made), but "Im Westen Nichts Neues" (1930) (All Quiet On The Western Front) is excellent.
"The Good Soldier Schweik" (1960) probably is the funniest of them.
WW2:
"Des Teufels General" (1955), terrific acting.
"08/15" (1954) and its sequels take a special role - and a very debatable one. Basically, it's glorifying everyday life in the German Wehrmacht.
"Hunde, wollt ihr ewig leben?" (1959) - Stalingrad
"Der Hauptmann von Köpenick" (1956) - seen a long time ago, more like a 60's comedy.
"Der Bockerer" (1981) - best scene is his unused Swastika flag: https://youtu.be/8NXlv0uZxwk
"The Star of Africa" (1957) - wasted youth meets Top Gun.
"The Captain" (2017), finally watched it, 8/10. Trailer: https://youtu.be/D_zSFeHfglc
not yet seen:
"Woyzeck" (1979), Herzog/Kinski
"Die Brücke" / "The Bridge" (1959), https://youtu.be/AqAQsYmu_1Q
I like the premise of The Captain. Thanks.
share"Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter" / "Generation War" (2013) is a TV miniseries, but might hit your taste too.

3 episodes of ~90 minutes each, a shorter watch than the Snyder Cut ...
I would recommend you:
Downfall and Sophie Scholl.
not explicitly german, but might as well be. filmed in the rubble of post-war berlin,
in the soviet sector :

How about a 3 part mini series? Generation War (2013) was pretty good.
what war?
sharethe "and don't mention the war" war (sorry for this Falwty Towers reference), following 5 friends.
It's originally called "Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter", meaning "Our mothers, our fathers".
