I don't know if this counts or not. I just described the book and movie in a different thread a few minutes ago, so I'll just copy the comments here and let you decide.

[Samuel Youd, writing under the pen name John Christopher, wrote] The Death Of Grass, about the aftermath of a virus which wipes out all grasses, including grains. A post-apocalyptic story in which humanity is now starving with a radically reduced food supply. An excellent novel which was made into a bizarre movie, No Blade Of Grass (1970).

So, it's an infectious disease, but it kills plants, not people.

I don't know if you're talking about your entry or mine, but No Blade Of Grass is quite weird in places. Made in 1970, it's influenced by the psychedelic culture of that era. Characters are sometimes shown distorted and/or with an altered color palette. It also has a few flash-forward bits, where characters are doing something quite normal and suddenly there's two or three seconds of something that will happen to them later in the movie.

I wouldn't say the movie is no good at all, it has its moments. But I've never heard of anyone giving it 10/10.

Don't worry, I'm talking about mine. Resident Evil (2002) was the first in the series and still had some minimal appeal, but I wouldn't call any movie by Paul W. S. Anderson "good".

I haven't yet seen "No Blade Of Grass (1970)", but I'll put it on my watchlist.

reply

LOL, don't worry, I'm not defending mine either. As I recall, one of the flash-forward bits was when a husband and wife were driving in a car, talking normally, then suddenly there was about two seconds of her being (later) raped, then it went back to the car again. Huh?!

Like you said, some minimal appeal but that's it.
