Growing up Canadian

We never saw this in the US

Such an on-screen chemistry with the penguin, he could have been a decent Bruce Wayne.

reply

From the comments

- The penguin suit looked more realistic than the hairpiece Shatner was wearing

reply

LOL!

He allegedly wore a tummy girdle during Star Trek...he is a vain guy😆

reply

We didn't see it in where I live either as we didn't have Loblaws

Edit to clarify that I am Canadian

reply

have you ever checked out Bob Loblaws Law Blog ?

reply

I have not. I didn't even know that was a thing.

reply

shatner would do anything for a buck.

reply

And..YET! there's SOMETHING...about his delivery THAT'S ... charming😬

reply

To be sure, he did do ads that aired in the US, the most memorable for me is Promise margarine. But these had a bit higher production values, while the Loblaws reminds me more of the ads we see for local businesses 😀

loblaws was very small and local back then. they are a huge conglomerate today. the fact he is doing this local commercial is kind of funny.

reply

I think the penguin is cute.

reply

for an extra $500.00, Shatner would have dressed up as the penguin.

reply

And that's 500 Canadian :)

reply

I like this one better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hnBp7x2QAE

awww...not again

love it

reply

I was surprised the Gorn's career never took off. You'd think a seven foot tall lizard dressed like a hooker would be natural leading man material, but things didn't happen for him. I'm glad he's getting some commercial work.

reply

It's impossible to not love Shatner!

What a cornball legend!!

From the long sideburns, wide necktie, and Shatner's general appearance, I'm guessing 1975.

Yah, see my reply above that mentions Promise. But while on the subject, note at 0:21 that as her turns toward the big chart his voice is dubbed in, probably had a microphone problem in the shoot.

It also makes me laugh because he says the subjects ate less fats, lean meats, egg & cheese substitutes, and highly polyunsaturated foods including Promise margarine. Dang, they could have eaten butter and gotten those results with those major those diet changes.

I do remember that the Promise thing was a campaign and he did several commercials.

Years after he did that campaign...https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/business/1996/11/08/margarine-maker-to-drop-ads-making-health-claims/4ec62a79-42a0-457d-8abd-d5a87dac0dcd/

reply

i don't think we had promise in canada.

reply

Ah, that stretch of time between Shatner's fame as Kirk and his later fame as TJ Hooker.

reply

It is well known (via interviews with him) that for a period of time after TOS was cancelled he lived out of a truck, basically homeless. No joke.
