Almost every film made by Hollywood.

The late film critic, Gene Siskel, complained on one episode of Siskel & Ebert about how fathers are regularly depicted as incompetent and/or uncaring.

This started in television maybe in the 70s, perhaps in some cases earlier, the boob of a dad, the schmuck. Even when he is a doctor, like on The Cosby Show, in his home life he has to be lead by the nose by his wife.

We can be glad he did he did it, he acted the hell out of that creepy role but yes, Rodney was very concerned about his image as a funnyman in taking it
