Which disaster from a 90s movie would you have the best chance of surviving?

You are in the same location and the same year the movie takes place. All of the technology is the same as in the movies. Which one do you think you have better odds of surviving?

1. The volcano from "Dante's Peak"
2. "Independence Day" alien attack
3. An impending asteroid hitting causing a possible "Armageddon."
4. "Titanic" hitting an iceberg.
5. Getting that midair "Turbulence".

reply

Some of them take place on earth and in space. It's more or less the (people on all filmed locations at the the time) / (affected people) ratio.
You have a pretty good chance of survival if you happen to be somewhere else, like not on the Titanic but on the docks, airport vs. plane, ...

Avoid the Golden Gate Bridge and the Chrysler Building if you want to make it to the end of a 90ies blockbuster.

reply

Twister - couldn't you just hide in the basement/shelter and ride it out for 20mins,, just make sure to duck the cow floating by

reply

This was going to be my answer since its a pretty regular thing where I'm from in the Midwest.

reply

But what if you're at the movie theatre and one comes along just like it did in the movie?

reply

You got me, I never say the stupid thing, But I would still thing you'd be pretty safe inside a big ass movie theater.
Still sounds kike the easiest ting to avoid and survive compared to volcanos, asteroids, sinking ships, instant ice age and that deadly Sharknado attack approachng on the horizon

reply

Titanic. I would be the first to jump into a lifeboat. And I'm a lady, so they would let me!

reply

Not if you're third class. The rich folk get on first.

reply

You think I would be travelling third class???

reply

No, I'm saying just being a woman doesn't automatically get you in. Being rich is most important.

reply

But it goes without saying I'd be travelling first class, so I would definitely be the first to get in!

I don't think they denied any women and children because they were poor. They just didn't start evacuating those until later.

reply

They left everyone who was in third class last. By that time, there weren't any lifeboats.

reply

Third class was way below in the ship, so it's not strange they were evacuated last. But when they started evacuation of the third class, there were still life boats left. It just wasn't well organized, some life boats left with hardly any people in them.

reply

But the question is: would Stratego help those poor people in the third class or would she just get off the first chance?

reply

Is that a trick question??? The answer seems so obvious!

reply

You're right. Pushing them off is a better option.

volcano

reply

That's what I thought. I don't live in LA.

reply

I'm thinking I could probably survive Home Alone 3. Beyond that it becomes pretty hazy.

reply

That movie was a different kind of disaster.

reply

Sense and Sensibility (1995)

I would probably have survived Marianne staying out in the rain and nearly catching her death. So long as I had a fire to sit next to and a nice cup of tea.

reply

Disaster? The only thing that's a disaster about that movie is that Kate Winslet didn't win an Oscar.

reply

But she had to go to bed with a hot water bottle and everything !

reply

the boredom??

reply

I mean, it's okay. But not a disaster movie.

reply

definitely not

reply

Armageddon, Titanic, Independence Day and Turbulence are complete no goes, so Dante's Peak it is. As soon as I learned that the volcano was active, I'd be out of that town.

reply

But is it that easy? They had trouble leaving town in the film. Pierce Brosnan studied volcanos and still struggled to get out.

reply

It's not so much that it's easy as that it's *easier* than the other options. Obviously the alien invasion in Independence Day and the asteroid in Armageddon are thwarted, but the disasters themselves would be impossible to survive since they're both globally destructive. Turbulence I haven't seen in a *long* time, and I admit I don't remember it that well, but the idea of being on a flying plane, where there's no way out, with a bunch of dangerous convicts seems very high risk. As for Titanic, granted I'm a woman which means I'd have a decent likelihood of getting to a lifeboat, but I doubt I'd be a first-class passenger. And even *if* I got into a lifeboat, with my heart condition and sensitivity to cold, I'd quite possibly freeze to death anyway.

Dante's Peak just seems the most escapable out of the options, at least for me.

Sorry for the text wall. I actually thought this out. :)

But with Armageddon, you have a team of oil drillers ready to save the day. Totally realistic, right?

I have argued that very same point for decades now. They were cardboard cutout clowns. Terrible movie.
