If you were a famous actor ...

... would you make all the money you could in a 15 year time frame. Invest wisely and then retire into anonymity. Or would you keep on going making great tv and films (and money) and having new fans with every venture?

I would go with the former. Work hard for 15 years then retire with a nice little nest egg.

I’d pick my roles wisely like Tom Cruise did and select films likely to be hits, then I’d cash in on sequels, without taking too many risks, ensuring I’m making big money at the box office.

After 15 years I’d try directing and star in passion projects, I’d most likely try and adapt books I like and also I'd appear in an arty film for an Oscar nom!

😀 Nice answer.

If after 15 years I still enjoy my acting career I would continue, very few people are lucky to do something they love for a lifetime.

I don't really know. As a woman, there is a nice long period when roles aren't really forthcoming because you aren't young enough or old enough.

If I was famous enough I think I would try to make as much as I could in the 15 years, then mostly retire, but still keep my finger in the pot so when I'm bored with retirement I could go back and be everyone's favourite Grandma. Kind of like Betty White, or even Maggie Smith, or Judi Dench.

I met a movie producer/director once, back around 1980. He wasn't based on Hollywood and had no desire to be. He kept his budgets very low and distributed his movies over three US states, at drive-in theaters. "Yeah, I'm not famous and not rich. And a good many of the audience are kids who don't even watch the movie, they're just renting a place to suck face. So what? The movies make a profit, and I get to make a decent living doing what I like to do."

I think that after banking $90 million, getting my sixth Oscar, my third Tony, and my fifth Emmy, I'd like to do something like that. Start a small production company. Keep costs low by hiring mostly unknown actors. Increase revenue by sometimes hiring a big name and offering the opportunity to do something he or she hadn't done before. "Hey, Harrison Ford, you've never directed anything? Here's your chance. George C. Scott, you wanna play a cowardly wimp? I've got another movie with a part for you. I can't pay you much upfront, but you get 30% of the profits for your respective movies." The profit sharing would ensure they had a vested interest in the movies' success rather than possibly regarding them as opportunities to just try out wild ideas.

I think I'd do something like that. If I had any talent. Which I don't.

I'd do what a lot of big time actors do..Make the money for 15 years, then choose very small quality projects I liked.

I'd keep going. If I had a passion for what I did, I wouldn't stop.

i just hope i wouldnt be an asshole. i dont think i would like it or fans attitude toward my characters. probably sign a contract i could control and out as fast as possible.

i think to see yourself on the big screen reading some writers words, things you would never say, would make me feel dishonest to myself and then have fans appreciate and requesting saying those writer's stupid words like "By Grabthar's Hammer, by the Sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged." would drive me slightly insane. i dont think i would ever be mean to fans (certainly not kids, maybe adults) though, i would understand i sold myself.

but i felt bad for someone like Gary Coleman working as a security guard and assholes coming up and saying "what'chu talking about, Willis?"
or Alec Guinness in this Dave Letterman interview, with Dave saying "do it" that would piss me off. lol. do it? no, f u.
