Most “anti-Israel” talk is latent antisemitism

Here is why this is obvious:

Most of the individuals saying things like “why does the US help Israel” or “Israel is committing genocide” 1. Are usually oblivious to the fact that we ceased all foreign aid to Israel decades ago, the 3 billion we give them is strictly military aid and to support our own interests. They are entirely self sufficient.

And 2. Don’t give two shits about the millions of Muslims being oppressed and slaughtered by their own governments elsewhere in the Middle East, nor any of the innumerable human rights atrocities taking place all over the world. They expect you to believe that they are specifically concerned with this one isolated population of Arabs (whose plight and circumstances they know absolutely nothing about nor do they care) while they espouse racist views towards most other groups and completely disregard the deep resentment held towards the West by most Arabs (including Palestinians) independent of our support of Israel.

The funny part about this is you don’t have to dig much to uncover their latent antisemitism, one or two comments deep in any conversation on the conflict and the Jewish world domination conspiracy theories start flying and you see where they really “stand” on an isolated conflict that they really don’t know anything about nor care.

"...we ceased all foreign aid to Israel decades ago, the 3 billion we give them is strictly military aid and to support our own interests."

That's doublespeak which can be found in the Orwellian classic, "1984".

Supporting a two-state solution isn't antiSemitic.

reply

Who said anything about not supporting a two state solution?!

Btw, this has been proposed dozens of times, Hamas and the Palestinians do not want this.

reply

"2013 Gallup poll found 70% of Palestinians in the West Bank and 48% of Palestinians in Gaza Strip, together with 52% of Israelis supporting "an independent Palestinian state together with the state of Israel". Support for a two state solution varies according to the way the question is phrased."

reply

Ok so then Hamas is responsible for keeping its citizens in a perpetual state of oppression.

Jesus was a Palestinian.

Some who are critical of Israel are motivated by animosity toward Jews. But overall your statement is a complete non sequitur. It's quite possible to be troubled by and be critical of Israel's foreign policy, laws, actions vis-a-vis the USA, et cetera for reasons quite apart from any sentiment for or against Jews, just as it is possible to have opinions about the nation of Japan separate from any opinions about the Japanese (who generally consider themselves a distinct group apart from other Asians).

An Israeli I knew in grad school had a good way of putting it. "Israel is a country. Jews are a race. Judaism is the traditional religion of Jews. And the only people in the world who can't keep these things straight are American Gentiles."

reply

Way to completely ignore my main point - of course you can be critical of their human rights issues and aggressive foreign policy. But most (99%) of the anti Israel people don’t say a word about the multitude of other countries with far worse human rights records.
