NFL football question.
If you punt on 3rd down do you get two punts? One punt on third down and one for forth down on from where the third down punt ended up?

The down doesn't matter, the act of punting means you are turning over possession.
sharei can't remember the last time i saw a team punt on third down.
shareNow that QBs can take a knee, doesn't make any sense to punt on third down.
At one time I'm guessing a team had to run a legit play of some kind regardless of circumstances, and maybe punting on third was the best option.
These days of protecting the QB, they get to opt out of running a play.
