Maradona just died. Age 60.

Very sad for Argentina and football fans in general.

He was an 80s icon as well. He lifted the nation after the Falkland islands war.

They couldn't beat England at sea but could on the football field.

reply

Never heard of him.

reply

He was a soccer (aka football) player.

😩

reply

Well, may he RIP.

reply

Yes. RIP.

😩

PS When I first saw this thread, I thought it said that Madonna had died. I'm not gonna say I was excited
by that prospect, but it certainly did not make me sad.

reply

Yeah, I wouldn't care if she passed.

reply

I wouldn't either.

😎

reply

Anyone from a footballing nation would know him. Basically anyone over 35 in the UK knows who Maradona is.

reply

hand ball.

reply

God hand ball.

reply

hand of fraud

reply

reply

If you put the comments to 'newest', people are leaving tributes for Maradona there.

I guess that song encapsulates how many feel.

reply

That's what I first read as well because I heard about Maradona earlier.

reply

I read it as Madonna at first too. Weird the way your mind plays tricks on you like that, since I’ve been hearing about Maradona all day.

60 years is a short life but he made his mark. RIP πŸ™

reply

Visually very similar and we tend to autocorrect spelling in this era given all the typos.

reply

> thought you said Madonna

Glad it wasn't just me. Maybe my old eyes aren't quite as bad as they seem.

reply

No, it wasn't just you. That's what I thought it said at first.

😎

reply

I thought he would have been older.

reply

Madonna is actually older than Maradona.

reply

Wait, which one is he?

reply

They are one and the same.

reply

LOL!

😎

reply

By 2 years yes.

reply

RIP.

And BTW I've been to the Falkland Islands. I have a Falklands Steamer-Duck on my life list.

reply

Excellent.

😎

reply

I've never been into soccer but grew up knowing that guy's name he was such a legend. RIP

This from a Yahoo News article.

β€œDiego Maradona once said he hated everything from the United States and, on another occasion, called President George W. Bush "human trash."

Speaking in 2007 to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, Maradona discussed his own personal belief in socialism, and denounced the US.

"I hate everything that comes from the United States. I hate it with all my strength," he said.”

reply

Yeah I remember him being friends with Castro as well.

I noticed he had a very expensive wristwatch so if he cared so much about the poor, why spend $50,000 on a watch?
