Living the good life.

At my grocery store they have what they call a produce butcher. For a couple bucks he will chop, peel, cut up, portion whatever fruits and veg you buy. Since I started using this service I’ve eaten a lot more fresh stuff. I love fresh fruit but cutting it is a pain. Ever tried cutting a pomegranate? It’s an all day event.

Cool video. I like the way he gets right to the point instead of wordy explanations.

I tried that once. My kitchen looked like a murder scene . Juice all over everything

My butler shells my pistachios and my sunflower seeds. Much preferable to store-bought. Store bought shelled sunflower seeds are a little on the oily side.

There is a similar scene in All in the Family (I tried looking for a clip). Archie confounded by cold soup.

I would love having something like that available. What store is offering that service?????

It’s this little farmers market type deal down the road . Since I started going there I’ve gotten totally hooked. Best fresh fruit and veg I’ve ever had. And I don’t have to cut it. They have tons of good stuff. A lot of it it’s out of my price range. 20 dollar jerky, 40 dollar steaks. 15 dollar honey . So I just go for the produce, which I don’t mind paying a little more for .

That’s quirky but I do have one question, wouldn’t fresh fruit become awfully dry if it isn’t consumed just after it’s cut or peeled? Or is it cut then reassembled and packaged in wrap or something? You cut an apple or banana and that shit will be brown before you know it when the flesh is exposed.

Cool that you’ve found a market you like. I don’t mind paying a little more for quality produce either but I’m happy to do my own cutting. Then again I love being in the kitchen, any excuse for me!

Fruit and veg shops are usually cheaper than the supermarkets.

Cut and reassembled and packaged. The first time you go you pay for the packaging . Then each time you bring it back they swap it for clean packaging . It’s delightful .

reply

Ah, I see. That is kinda cute, yeah.

reply

I usually eat it all the day I buy it too

reply

Makes sense with a butcher, but I like my fruit and veg whole, call me whacky.

reply

I like it for stuff that sucks to cut. Pineapple, melon... stuff like that

reply

Cutting it yourself ensures freshness.

On one hand, someone else doing the work appeals to me, being a lazy brute. On the other hand, I'm finicky about eating fresh veggies and being a lazy brute, I only want to shop once a week at most, so a lot of that stuff would go bad before I could eat it.
