Are "confidential" job postings a red flag?

I.e. employer does not give away name of workplace or name of owner/manager.

IMO, I think it means they're trying to hide a bad reputation Or are about to fire someone.

Would you apply or avoid?

reply

Sounds like a trap...
Avoid.

reply

Indeed. To me, it means they're about to fire someone and they don't want fired worker to know about it.

reply

Maybe
I was thinking more along the lines of 'Meet us in a remote part of town, don't worry, we're not serial killers'

reply

Isn't that the plot to Hostel?

reply

Those idiots in Hostel were lured in by hotties they were stupid enough to fall for

Unfortunately, this sort of lure is used fairly frequently
A case in NYC involved an ad on Craigslist for a late model Cadillac at an insane discount, 'meet us in The Bronx, CASH only'

A couple of beating and robbery victims actually showed up for this one!

They're lucky they weren't murdered

reply

A fool and his money are easily parted.

reply

It's called "A Serbian Film."

reply

Probably the CIA.

reply

Possibilities:
1. The posting was made to avoid phone calls from headhunters/employment agencies.
2. The posting was made by a headhunter/employment agency, to prevent other headhunters/employment agencies from figuring out the client, and stealing the listing.
3. The posting was made by an Internet scammer/spammer/Chinese/
Russian/Communist/Marxist seeking new emails and phone numbers to scam/spam.

reply

is this through a employment/headhunter agency?

reply

Sounds like human trafficking or something.

reply

Sometimes, headhunters aren't allowed to give more details. Usually, they are greatly relieved when you tell them what position they are actually talking about. After all, you know your industry branch better than recruiters do.
