Big 10 has canceled the 2020 football season.

Bummer.

Correction - University presidents have voted to cancel. Final decision tomorrow.

reply

Stupid. The universities just guaranteed these players will attend twice as many parties than they would have otherwise. They're college kids -- you're not going to be able to prevent them from socializing.

reply

I think some of the contenders for next year's NFL draft might get serious and behave, so they might be willing to do whatever is necessary to play and stay healthy.

There is talk of a spring 2021 college football season, but I believe the NFL draft has to be completed by June so that could really be screwed up.

reply

they aren't getting paid so i am not surprised.

reply

Schools get paid from the tv contracts.

reply

the players should get paid when you consider the money they generate - football and basketball especially.

reply

That debate has been going on forever. I don't really have a view. There are definitely good arguments on both sides.

reply

They can't do a bubble so they have to cancel.

reply

I've long been a fan of college sports, but I also feel the reason for a university has been perverted by big-scale monetizing of athletics. It's become a joke and a sham and obvious to everyone who cares to look at it objectively.

reply

Should come as no suprise.

You have to look at the worse case scenario for the decision makers, the shot callers, the big ballers.

What if a young 19 year old football player DIES from covid19? Unlikely yes...but possible.

The press would have a field day....heads will roll....the shot callers heads.

Big ballars like their heads attached.

Wise to cancel.

Big Ten Conference Punts College Football to Spring Due to Coronavirus

Nebraska is supposedly trying to get back into the Big XII, couple other big names too. I'm not sure any conference will be playing once it all shakes out, we'll see. In other news, Oklahoma State is already preparing their 2020 championship signage.

reply

I heard that also - about teams possibly switching conferences.

reply

Maybe this is a good time to bring up the subject of:

Why do the athletic teams of colleges and universities need to be in "conferences" in the first place?
