Are action movies becoming too ridiculous?

I just watched Vin Diesel jump off a tower (about 50 feet?) and ski down a mountain (with no snow on it). He also takes the time to do a couple tricks on the way down. Before that, there was a guy jumping around shooting about 25 other people. None of whom, of course, managed to hit him.

Before that, I was watching a movie with Iridis Elba in which he shot about 100 guys without getting so much as as scratch.

The Transporter, John Wick, James Bond, these are just a few more culprits of the seemingly superhuman ability to take on armies and emerged unscathed. It's all so unrealistic. How can you suspend your disbelief for such lunacy. Might as well have the characters fly.

It was a Bond film, one of Brosnan's. I'm a little vague but he either motorcycles off a plane that is crashing managing to land perfectly or he motorcycles into a crashing plane which somehow breaks his fall. Either way it was just too stupid for me.

I'm more into gritty type action films where the action is plausible or at least mostly plausible.

Yeah, i was thinking of one in which Brosnan (as Bond) shoots a bunch of Russians (I think) while running around a bomb factory, then hops in a tank. It's funny how the good guys can always hit what they aim at, but the bad guys waste thousands of rounds.

I really get put off by films where the bad guys can't shoot straight, does it not make the good guy look less elite?

but over the top has been around a long time.

for me its car chase scenes.... complete bore... tires screeching, car swerving left right frantically shot, aggressive face shot, car horn, near miss, eyes in rear view mirror shot. *yawns* i need some long zoomed out shots showing where they are going at the very least to keep my interest.

Yeah, the crocodile jumping was a bit ridiculous.

The only car chases I really enjoyed were in To Live and Die and LA and The Matrix: Reloaded.

I don't mind so much if the action is over the top, but the CGI doesn't do anything for me.

I suppose it's Die Hard. Although, I do get a lot of enjoyment from watching The Matrix and the Matrix: Reloaded. Specifically, when Neo fights Morpheus in the first film, and when Neo fights 100 Smiths in the second. Now, the second would seem to be an example of what I'm complaining about. The difference is that Neo's abilities are explained. And, he's in the Matrix, not real life.

In fact, I think The Matrix may have started this problem. Other films had to keep up with the incredible, logic defying, action of the Matrix, but most haven't properly set the plot to explain it.

Slightly OT - have you ever seen Spy? Jason Statham's character describes ever more ridiculous feats that he's supposed to have done, then you realise that he's actually describing things that he's actually done in other films - absolutely hilarious!
