Would this coronavirus pandemic be reflected in future movies?

Say, some movies in 5 or 10 years from now that are set in 2020 and people would wear face masks, social distancing, etc like when movies today that are set in the 50s everyone is smoking indoor and wearing hats. What do you think?

I'd prefer to forget all of this ASAP...It's not a sub genre I'd like to see, this Covid thing is a big annoyance and a lot of people seem scared

I vote for NO movies about it and a full investigation into what the 'World Health Organization' was doing in the early stages! Seems to me they have ONE JOB!...I suspect they were texting their boos for booty calls or doing the NY Times Crossword puzzle, those take ALL DAY!

reply

I completely agree. Let's move on and forget about it.

you'll more likely see it bubble up in indirect ways. paranoia and isolation will show up in films more often in the next few years.

reply

What do you mean by paranoia and isolation in the context of movies? Like horror?

reply

it could be in horror or other genres. when something leaves a dent in the culture as this has, it has a way of showing up in art in some manner. and it doesn't have to be so on-the-nose as to depict an actual pandemic or measures taken to prevent one.

reply

Do you think it would affect current superhero movies trend? Will people in the near future still want to buy the fantasy optimism offered by superheroe movies? Or will this be the end of it?

reply

Hard to say. The question that had already loomed large before Covid-19 has been pushed to the brink. What might stop the slide in theater going? Eat-in places haven't done the trick. Maybe a different brand of escapist cinema will bloom from the rubble of the pandemic. Who knows? Personally, I have superhero movie fatigue -- especially from the edgeless variety. But I'll bet we'll see a few more movies where your neighbor might be the problem.

reply

Any movie about that has scenes set in 2020 can’t really avoid it.

reply

True, but moviemakers can just avoid depicting 2020 altogether. They can set the movie in 2010s instead, for example. Nothing is actually very different between 2010s and 2020.

reply

If there were movies about the Trump administration or the BLM protests, for instance. How can they avoid it?

reply

In that case then I guess they wouldn't be able to.

reply

I have yet to see a movie that featured to 1918 pandemic.

Too many potential customers lost love ones, would be kind of scummy for Hollywood to capitalize directly on it.

It might be noted, but probably not featured in future movies.

reply

Good point. I think moviemakers would just avoid setting their movies in 2020. They can simply say it was 2019 and call it a day.
