Current famous movie actor that has never acted in TV?

Looking for an actor that has been in the business for a while not a newbie. All the ones that immediately come to mind (Clooney, Roberts, Washington, Damon, Smith, Dicaprio, etc.) have acted in some TV show with the exception of Tom Cruise. Anyone know why? Has he ever express interest in doing a show?

Even legends like Deniro and Pacino have done TV. Can anyone think of some other top tier career actors that have not done TV?

Tom Cruise hit the big time fast.

Had a mediocre debut in the movie All the Right Moves (1983)

Major stardom followed Risky Business (1983) and he never looked back.

There was a much more defined wall that separated movie stars and TV stars in the 1970's and 1980's. It was harder to make the jump successfully from TV to movie stardom.

That is why many of us were shocked when Bruce Willis made the jump, so many didn't (see Tom Selleck).

Yeah, as an 80s kid if a 'film star' did a tv show it was so weird. It just made us all think how their career must have bombed if they were on a show. It's the other way round now. I suppose with all the streaming sites it's better for their careers to have a huge show they a part of than one random film.

I recently saw an episode of Murder She Wrote with George Clooney lol.

Cruise is almost certainly the most prominent. He and his ego even turned down a guest slot on The Simpsons twice, yet he accepted a cameo in an Austin Powers sequel.

reply

It was a smart move.

reply

ha i didn't know he turned down the simpsons. ego indeed.

Christian Bale ?

reply

Bale is the closest so far! But this "Heart of the Country" show in the 80s puts him out of the running, methinks.

He also did one or two TV plays in the early 90s - I remember one, a murder-mystery with Denholm Elliott. Nothing for a long time, though.

They either graduate from TV into movies or are demoted into TV when their popularity fades, Charlie Sheen being a good example of that. Cruise has maintained enough popularity to keep away from TV for now anyway.

Then you have actors like Michael J Fox who have gone back and forward between the two mediums.

Stallone has never done TV.

reply

Cameron Diaz never really did.

reply

upon checking she did voices for cartoons but no live action tv. that's a good one!
