What do you do for a living?

I already know probably more than half of the responses wont be serious!

Me: Area Director for two neighborhood publications for affluent neighborhoods.

Truth be told most of the people I make a living off of are snooty arrogant rich white people. But people love reading about what their neighbors are up to. The newsletter thing we distribute once a month is given to houses in affluent neighborhoods, with stories about these people. My money comes from the ads people pay me to put in the newsletter. Businesses that cater to rich people. I secretly don't like the people that read this stuff, but it's given me a great career with awesome residual income. And the ads are so valuable I am able to trade small ads for services. The local home contractor put new hardwood flooring in my kitchen for 6 months of free ads.

So I love the perks of my job.

This makes sense

reply

Love it. Always my favorite group of kids to work with .

reply

I think I'm one of the few who can't wait to get back to work:)

reply

Me too !!

reply

I never found my calling, am not young and am woefully under-employed. Pretty depressing.

reply

Are you physically capable?

reply

I'm not that young and was never a big boned guy. I've worked plenty at all kinds of jobs, sometimes with success, sometimes less. Why do you ask?

reply

I thought you were looking for work.

reply

I'm working but everything is tenuous. I'm not young. No one wants to hire someone like me and my present job is very difficult, physically and emotionally. Don't really know how I can jump to anything most satisfying. Just a long hard slog.

reply

I think most of us that post here a lot are not young. Yeah it sucks doing work you don’t like because then its just a job. I thought you were looking for work and I was going to suggest Walmart greeter. Sounds like a joke but it’s easy and comes with benefits.

reply

are you on salary or commission?

reply

100% commission. But customers sign contracts for 6 months-3 years. And I get a cut of their monthly payments.

Like most residual sales it took me a long time to build up my customer base, but the ads are very effective and I'd say 85% of my customers are repeats. I really don't have to prospect for new customers much, most of my new business is referrals.

reply

I'm on disability pension. But I keep working on becoming a published novelist. And also, I will take care of my mother every day.

reply

What do you like to write? And very commendable of you to take care of your mom. Caring for loved ones is a thankless job and you are a great person for doing this!

reply

Well, it is hard to describe my genre. It is a mix between fantasy and historical novels.

My mum is still better than me at some things, like cleaning up a room. But I have to help her with most new electronic devices. And she can't learn how to use the internet.

reply

So kinda like outlander books.

reply

Not quite. I guess I should have explained myself a bit better... My novels are set in a fictional country, but with no supernatural elements.

reply

I could use someone to help me with things computer related.
In some ways I'm as smart or smarter than most people.

In other ways, I'm just little lamb who's lost in a wood. I know I could always be - oh so good - to someone who'll watch over me.

reply

I love those kinds of books. Tim Powers writes some interesting stuff in that vein

I do tech support over the phone.

reply

What number should I call if I need your help?

reply

You would call the number on the website. I can't tell you which website though.

reply

PORNHUB🤫

reply

How did you know?!!!! Don't tell anyone. It will be our dirty little secret.

reply

Well, If I have a problem with my phone, computer, internet or Tv I want YOU to to be my support.

reply

Fix your own darn problems! Seriously though, you could message me with an issue or question and if I could help, I would.

reply

I know you would. God bless you my brother.

reply

How does one obtain such an occupation? What kind of certifications are needed?

reply

It is just a matter of applying. Training is done by the company. No special certifications are needed.

reply

I'm going to have seek out this fabled company. Any keywords I should search for? Shall I PM you with more specifics?

reply

You could search for "tech support jobs" or something like that or search based on the company that you want to work for. I'm not allowed to tell you which company I work for, but if you search for tech support jobs, you will likely come across it.

reply

"I do tech support over the phone."

You have my sympathies. Ive spent far too many years doing that before my "career" moved off that rung.
Talking users through tech stuff either in person , via remote-control of pc , or , worst , on the phone.
