I don't care how great of a home theater you have, it's not the same as going out to see a movie. I hope when this is over they are still around.

I hope it gets restored soon. Can't imagine a world where we can't go out to see a movie.!

It's so expensive though. In the UK at least.

I used to go to the cinema every week, no matter what was on we always went. It was about £6 a ticket and less than £7 for a drink and food.

It's about £13 a ticket now at my local cinema and about the same again for food. When there's two of you, it adds up.

It's why I miss showbox 🙄

They need to make a major investment in buying up old Drive-Ins and making them AMC branded and operational before Cinemark and others do, and they will survive this thing. Otherwise yes, they may be gone forever, along with multimillion-dollar salaries for major roles, and the quality of theatrical exposition on celluloid in general, sadly.

Chinese conglomorate Wanda Group owned a majority stake in the company. Private equity firm Silver Lake Partners made a $600 million investment in AMC in September 2018 [obtaining majority control of 52%], but the voting powers of AMC shares are structured so Wanda Group still controls the majority of AMC's board of directors.

Beginning March 20, 2020, AMC furloughed all employees until further notice. Employees were not given any pay. On March 25, 2020, AMC furloughed all of its 600 corporate employees, including CEO Adam Aron. All furloughed corporate AMC employees and associates retain their active employment status, including all health benefits.

My guess is the Chinese will acquire greater financial control and reopen. Some AMC multiplexes were already showing Chinese films in one or more theaters.

AMC wasted money converting some theaters to rocking chair seats with in-theater food service, reducing the seating capacity in each theater. That will make it very hard to reopen some multiplexes with social distancing in use.

In recent years, nonprofit groups have shown older films in the summer, in parks or parking lots, similar to drive-in theaters. Nearly all suburban drive-ins were closed decades ago and bulldozed. There are still lots of drive-in's in rural areas.

Well C-19 is dead. So that may help.

If it is not dead, there will be a wave of 10s of thousands of deaths in about a month from the riots/looters/terrorist attacks. Let's hope it's dead. Yes?
