What’s your favourite Oscar Best Picture? And which do you think’s best?
We’re running the World Cup of Oscar Best Pictures on Twitter next month. Give it a try @oscarsworldcup (or the link below) so we can decide the greatest of all time.
My personal favorites (I can’t pick just one): The Godfather (I and II), Forrest Gump, The Departed, Casablanca, The Deer Hunter, On The Waterfront, Platoon, Rocky, Rain Man...and an honorable mention of Saving Private Ryan (oh wait...that still lost to the dogshit known as Shakespeare in Love for Best Picture of ‘98...what a tragedy to this day.)
I like Shakespeare In Love. Ryan was heavy-handed and begging for recognition while SIL was light and had it's own integrity. That's why it won - people get sick of having war and patriotism thrown in their like we're Pavlov's dog and are supposed to salivate when we see it. Shake's Love is a nice, charming movie.
I don’t look at movies politically like so many people do, and Saving Private Ryan was a brilliant film and a touching tribute to the greatest generation.
