Rank these mostly 90's Jim Carrey comedies

I'll admit I haven't seen much of anything he's been in since about 2008, but I still enjoy rewatching a lot of his movies from the 90's and early 00's.

Obviously I am only putting ones I have seen in my list.

1. The Cable Guy
2. Dumb and Dumber
3. Me Myself & Irene
4. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
5. The Truman Show
6. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
7. Liar Liar

I really like all of these, and tbh the last three were a tossup for me.

The Cable Guy is probably in my top 20 list. I feel like it doesn't get the respect if deserves and is very misunderstood. I remember when it came out people complained that Carrey wasn't acting like his usual dumb self as in the Ventura movies and D&D. But the movie is black comedy genius!

Between the two Ventura movies I feel like part 2 just holds up better. And there are a handful of scenes in part 2 that I get red in the face from laughing so much at- the infamous rhino scene being at the top.

My Myself & Irene is great from start to finish.

I'm a big fan of Liar Liar and think that was one of Jim Carey's best showcases of his abilities. It allowed him to have genuine and warm moments one moment, and insane hysterical moments the next. You didn't list The Mask but that may be by second favorite from the 90s...again genuine warm moments couple with craziness works for me.

Dumb and Dumber is great for my idiotic sense of humor if I'm looking for something that keeps me laughing from start to finish, this would be my top JC pick of this type.

Less crazy about Ace Ventura and Me,Myself and Irene; although I did enjoy them both I really just don't have the desire to watch either again. (Note: Only referring to the first Ace Ventura, never saw When Nature Calls).

The Truman Show and Cable Guy are good movies, don't enjoy them as much as The Mask or Liar Liar but realistically they are probably superior films.

I have only seen bits and pieces of The Mask. I should watch it soon.

I really like everything on the list. Even Liar Liar which is at the bottom is still excellent.

He really was the man back in the day!

My favourite Jim Carrey film ( of the handful I've seen ) was ' Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events '. Not a great film but I thought he was very good in it.

I have yet to see that but I've heard good things!

I will be honest, I have never been a huge fan of his comedy movies. They're just not my thing. However I did like The Truman Show, and I didn't mind The Cable Guy. I think his best 90s performance was in Man on the Moon.

He gets most of his credit for his comedy but he also has some great roles in other stuff as well. I also like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

reply

That would be my favourite of his movies.

I'm not a fan, although I did think Liar, Liar was very good. Liar, Liar is to Jim Carey as Groundhogs Day is to Bill Murray. (Not a Murray fan either, but Groundhogs day was good.)

The Truman Show isn't a comedy, though.

reply

Wikipedia calls it a science fiction comedy drama.
