Remove one of these songs from classic rock radio

Some people hold the belief that classic rock is great, but classic rock radio, not so much. Mainly because most of them rarely play deep cuts, and often only play a few songs by most artists (there are a handful of exceptions, the most obvious exception being The Rolling Stones; after all, you know what they say about The Rolling Stones..."If you ever get in the mood for The Rolling Stones, just put on your local classic rock station and wait about five songs or less."

I came up with a list of songs classic rock radio beats its listeners over the head with. Which of these songs would you retire from classic rock radio forever if given the chance?

AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
Aerosmith - Dude (Looks Like a Lady)
Bachman Turner Overdrive - Takin' Care of Business
Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band - Old Time Rock and Roll
Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer
Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar on Me
John Cougar Mellencamp - Hurts So Good
Kiss - Rock and Roll All Nite
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
The Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

Hurts So Good

Also, if I never hear More Than a Feeling by Boston again it will be too soon.

reply

Lol! More than a feeling is the worst!

reply

It really is. Peace of Mind goes down so smooth. I could listen to that one over and over, but that's where my love of Boston ends.

reply

Whole lotta love is sacred and should be removed from this list.
I’d ditch skynyrd.

reply

Sweet Home Alabama needs to be eradicated from the history books. That one really hurts, and not so good.

reply

☝️

reply

Aerosmith or skynyrd

reply

Just one?

reply

Yes. Only one.

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band - Old Time Rock and Roll
Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar on Me

I change stations immediately upon hearing those. Take your pick.

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band - Old Time Rock and Roll

I used to like Bob Seger until it became apparent that every one of his singles were about him reminiscing about the past. Either his songwriting ability is limited, or he had some early success with this genre and decided to milk it for all it's worth.

Another song that can be retired is Queen's "We Will Rock You." Not only has this been overplayed on the radio, but in sports arenas, too. Watch a hockey game on TV and I guarantee you won't get to the end without hearing this.

I'm a fan of Queen, but can only take so much of the same song over and over.

Number one on my list, by FAR: Hotel California!

I think that's the only Eagles song I can tolerate. I am a bit sick of it, but I'd rather listen to that than any other. Peaceful Easy Feeling, Take it Easy, and Lyin' Eyes all sound exactly the same, and not in a good way.

reply

Yeah, well the flip side of my post is that I would also include ALL Eagles, Boston, REO Speedwagon, Beatles, Aerosmith, Guns 'N Roses and Styx.

Probably more.

You're right, they do. I like some of their songs but wouldn't call myself a fan. Desperado, Seven Bridges, I Can't Tell You Why are a few I like.

reply

Easy. Sweet Home Alabama.

reply

A southern man don't need you around, anyhow

reply

😭

Nothing to do with disliking southerners, male or female. I dislike the song.

reply

Well, I heard Mister Young sing about her
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down

reply

Can't stand Neil Young, so we're even there ;)

reply

Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar on Me

reply

If you give me the option to erase Def Leppard
from existence I will do it every single time.

reply

The High 'N Dry album was pretty good.

reply

Fine with me. I’ll throw in journey as a bonus.
