The ninth gate

A masterpiece the likes of which only Kubrick himself could have mustered.

I enjoyed that movie also, a underrated work. Polanski is a fine director, but you are right, it did have a Kurbrick like feel to it.

reply

Bitter Moon is another Polanski film I enjoyed.

reply

Haven't seen thay, I'll check it out.

I found The Ninth Gate to be dull and poorly made. Definitely not a masterpiece, in my opinion, more like a 5/10.

reply

Ah well, horses for courses I suppose

reply

Enjoyable but no masterpiece. And what was with the woman flying through the air?

reply

Fallen angels can fly.

Well, she isn’t human or at least has supernatural abilities. I can’t decide whether she’s the devil or a succubus.

My initial thoughts were she was the devil but other theories even suggest Corso is the devil - I’ve not got my head round that one yet.

That’s why I like the film, it’s ambiguous and layered.
