What's the point of slipcovers for dvd's and bluray's?

They annoy me.

To annoy you. I guess they succeed.

What do you mean by a slipcover ?

reply

A cover that you slip over a case.

" Sounds pretty kind of useless though, don't you think so Mary ? "

reply

To protect the bluray case by keeping the plastic looking new and tight.

Also, they typically only have those when the blurays are new releases. At the $5 bin, they no longer have those. So it's a sort of "proof of purchase" that you bought the bluray when it was new, at its most expensive.

What if they had a slip cover for the slip cover?

reply

I think its for marketing purposes. Makes the DVD stand out a little among the others on the shefl.

Just a guess.
