Hey! You leave one of my favourite middle of the road, AOR bands out of this.

Well you gotta blame someone

reply

Can we not just blame Justin Beiber and have done with it?

reply

Donald Trump, is that you???

I'm sure the world felt the same way about Americans with the Spanish Flu in 1918.

Don't hate the playa man, hate the game.

I am 100% sure that this didn't originate from China, just that it was the first country to hit critical mass. People are bringing up some interesting points about how there were mysterious respiratory illnesses being reported here the year before. For example, I remember how there was a big thing about "popcorn lung" suddenly breaking out all over the place, except it was being blamed on vaping. The symptoms and lasting effects (permanently scarred lungs) sound suspiciously like COVID-19.

So, I think this virus has been circulating around the world for months now. How is it that a disease that only originated from one city in Asia has gone so widespread so quickly, and in such random ways? It makes sense that political officials and celebrities might get it (they travel a lot and shake hands), but you've got everyone from A List celebrities currently shooting in Australia to one guy in Iceland (one of the most remote locations in the world) and minimum wage grunts at Costco and Whole Foods who've probably never set foot outside of NYC getting it.

reply

Permanently scarred lungs is not exclusive from Corona-chan. It's the consequence of pneumonia. Every serious pneumonia, no matter the cause, will leave permanent damage in the lungs.

Ugh, I hate sequels. Can't Hollywood have any creativity anymore??

I understand that. But we started having "mysterious" respiratory illnesses last year, not established, well documented ones like pneumonia, but illnesses so unusual that had to be given quirky names. Also, there were headlines blazing all over the 2019 winter season about how flu deaths were on the rise:

CDC: Flu deaths on the rise with 2,100 fatalities reported in 2019-2020 season
https://www.wate.com/news/cdc-flu-deaths-on-the-rise-with-2100-fatalities-reported-in-2019-2020-season/

Flu Cases Spike, 442 VA Deaths Reported In 2019-20 Season
https://patch.com/virginia/leesburg/flu-cases-spike-442-va-deaths-reported-2019-20-season

I'm having a feeling that COVID-19 probably goes back further than Wuhan, that it was probably spreading long before then, which explains why the infections seem so "random." They're not really random at all; the contagion was far more widespread than previously thought and for a much longer time than previously suspected. It's just that we didn't really notice anything was wrong because it was flu season and it was only more active, healthier people (who tend to just get flu-like symptoms) getting infected. Besides, we didn't know about COVID-19 then and couldn't therefore test for it.

This suspicion of mine is why I'm wondering about officials projecting that up to 60% of us might be infected. I can't help but wonder if that is projection or knowledge that this contagion was already more widespread before it gained any media attention.

You should loosen your tinfoil hat because it's rotting your brain.

You should learn how to fucking read, because I didn't say there was a conspiracy. I'm just saying that it might've been here longer than we thought and might have come from any location. I'm sorry it hurts your racist little brain that I'm trying to play Devil's Advocate in what's essentially a racist thread trying to rally everyone to hAt3 tH3 AsHuNs and start randomly assaulting them like what's been happening all over the US, UK and Australia.

Welcome to my ignore list.

It really doesn't require much to look at a map to follow the spread. This particular epidemic originated in China - nothing else was going on until that outbreak. And yes it is possible for a virus originating in an isolated part of the world to spread as quickly as it has. The world is so interconnected anymore - Just imagine what the 1918 outbreak would look like today.

Personally, I'm not blaming the Chinese people for this, but don't kid yourself about the Chinese government not wanting to get us.

Why?

China can be a little expensive, but I can appreciate the artwork and the craftsmanship. I like the subtlety in this one: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/9d/8b/d0/9d8bd0dff14a775e313b10ed8c124706.jpg
