Question about Joe Gallo scene in The Irishman - *Spoilers*

Why was he killed? Because of his assasination attempt on Colombo or just for insulting Russ? If the former, was Russ close with or affiliated with Colombo? Did Russell even have the authority to kill another boss without a sit down and approval from higher ups?

For spoilers, use something like this, or at least warn about it in the title ("spoiler alert"), so anybody entering the thread will be aware of that.

Never place spoilers in the title, specially in the General Forum.

Do you know the answer by chance?

My understanding is that the Colombo assassination was sanctioned due to his increasingly high profile as the organizer of an Italian-American civil rights group. The other bosses viewed that as unneeded and unwanted publicity. Though he had the authority for the Colombo hit, Gallo was supposedly killed because it was done in a very public setting and in front of his family.

What about in the movie though, they made it seem like it was for disrespecting Russ?

Sorry, I'm not sure. I have to rewatch one of these days.

Ok thanks
