So the new Star Wars got mediocre reviews?

I’ll be honest, I didn’t enjoy the first installment in the reboot. I like JJ Abrams and I loved the first Star Trek movie but I just couldn’t get into it. I also am a fan of the original trilogy, when they re-released it in the late 90’s I was pretty excited.

We enjoyed when we saw it
Nothing can compare to the OT though (but I was a kid so maybe that's just nostalgia talking)

Not the movie's fault but man, the theatre chain I went to (Regal Cinema) showed 32 minutes of ads and previews before the film...it was way too much😡

reply

Wow, and I thought 20 minutes was too much...32 minutes? That's insane.

reply

I know!
On top of a 142 minute film...we were there all day😵

I think George Lucas set the table for post-original trilogy movies being mediocre to awful. He decided to aim the thing (post original) at kids. What was great about the original trilogy was that it was great for adults and kids. I have no interest in Star Wars as it exists today.

reply

The only one I really liked was The Empire Strikes Back.

reply

I thought it was pretty good.

reply

It looks visually stunning, I might still see it

I enjoyed The Force Awakens, but was disappointed that so many plot devices were recycled (hiding data in a droid🙄)

I didn’t enjoy The Last Jedi so much - the sub plots didn’t seem to go anywhere.

I loved Rogue One.

I liked Solo, although I seem to be alone on this one.

I haven’t seen Rise of Skywalker yet, but I have high hopes.

reply

Yeah, it can’t be that bad

reply

Rogue One was terrific👍
I've chatted with people that consider it very high on the list as one of the best SW movies ever and I agree

Solo...I need to give it a rewatch, I really wasn't in love with it

Rise is fine, just what you'd expect
I'm a bit of a Rey fan though so...opinions seem to vary

reply

I don’t have a problem with Rey. I think some people take Star Wars far too seriously. They forget that George Lucas originally wanted to do Flash Gordon, couldn’t secure the rights and ended up doing something similar. This is supposed to be a rip roaring Saturday matinee type thing.

reply

Totally understand, it took on a decades long life of it's own

I've enjoyed most of it...some posters tend to go a bit nuts lol

reply

For the most part, I like mainstream stuff. There does seem to to be some snobbery about this, which makes me sometimes embarrassed to admit I like certain films for fear of being laughed at.

reply

Eh' we all like what we like
No harm in the conversations (though some are a but more obsessed than others!)
